Ohio State oral commitment J.T. Barrett

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman planned to check out quarterback recruit J.T. Barrett in Texas in about 10 days, and he was told by the rest of the offensive staff that he needed to come back to Columbus with a pledge from Barrett.

Barrett told him there was no reason to wait, and on Wednesday, the four-star recruit and potential successor to Braxton Miller gave an oral commitment to Ohio State.

"I felt like I would have missed out on an opportunity by not going to Ohio State," Barrett told the Plain Dealer on Wednesday afternoon before heading out to spring football practice at Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. "With Coach (Urban) Meyer and what he has going there and the history of how his teams play football, they win and they win national championships and I want to be part of that."

Barrett said he used the same technique he uses before high school football games, visualizing himself in different situations. So he pictured himself playing for Ohio State and for LSU and for Baylor and for Texas Tech, and he decided he was ready to lock in as a Buckeye.

"I felt like if I went to another school I would have been watching on TV with Ohio State winning a national championship, and I wanted to do that. So I prayed about it and the best feeling I got was from Ohio State," Barrett said.
