QB Kenny "the old righty" Guiton (WR Coach Wisconsin)

He doesn't have the strongest arm, but I was impressed with his timing. He throws his guys open and out of their breaks. He hit Stoneburner right on the money out of his break, and also had an incompletion to Evan Spencer that actually impressed me because the ball was thrown before Evan even broke for the sideline. There was a lot of air under it that caused it to be incomplete, but it was something we don't see a lot out of Braxton.

I think Kenny will be more than serviceable in whatever time he's given. I think we'll actually see improvement in the short to intermediate passing game. I think he throws a much more catchable ball in part because he doesn't have the zip, but he also, no doubt, has a lot more touch on the ball. The deep ball will be interesting...he has the arm strength, but a lot of that is timing. He underthrew a couple yesterday, but with a week of practice, I think he could throw a pretty deep ball too. It actually becomes a more catchable deep ball too, if he just airs it out a little further and allows his receivers to run underneath it. They kept having to break the route off and come back to the ball.

Lastly, I just wanted to mention really quickly, one missed play. If you go back and watch overtime, the play where Corey snapped it high, and Kenny secured it and dove back to the LOS....they were setting up a triple option with Hyde diving and Chris Fields playing the pitch man. Ohio State caught them on an outside blitz and I think Fields probably walks into the end-zone if the snap is on target.

It will be fun to see how Urban changes the offense with Kenny at the helm..in a weirid way, I think it gives Urban even a little more opprtunity to get creative. He has already talked about being able to run the inside shuffle pass with Guiton, and that Kenny reads the "read-option" better than Braxton. Obviously the "big-play" capability isn't there, especially with his legs, but I think Kenny brings a different element between the ears and with his arm.

We all know that he's not the football player that Braxton is, but in my mind, Kenny instantly became a Buckeye legend on Saturday. That performance won't ever be forgotten by this Buckeye fan...

:oh:
Dony know about that, Kenny showed me he is a hell of a better pocket qb than Brax is. Brax is the better runner and athlete and he fits into Urbans style of offense better but ill reserve my judgement as to who is the better player.

That 2 point conversion was just money. I've seen many a starting QB miss that pass, with a lot less on the line. I'll go with Best on the better football player line. Brax might be a better athlete, but I can't quite say he's a better football player at this point. I will agree that I won't forget his effort until my mind turns to complete jelly.

Braxton Miller is a Heisman candidate. He is the better football player.

But Kenny brings some different intangibles that I highlighted above. It will be fun to see how Urban implements Kenny next week after a full week of practice. I'd expect the receivers to be more involved and fewer drops. Potentially new looks and plays based on how well Guiton handles read-option and the pitch-man.

If he had a deep ball ability (can't throw as far as Braxton), he'd be NFL caliber.

He makes great reads, can sense pressure, has a nice touch, doesn't show panic. He just needs that long ball ability to be complete and to be competetive in the NFL

Let's pump the breaks a little bit. I would say before we get into xrayrandy territory but I think we're already there.

Was I wrong in anything I said? Ok maybe he needs to work on threading a ball in, but I haven't seen him have to try yet.

He has the touch, he has good vision, he makes smart reads, he was able to avoid pressure.

Otehr than what I mentioned, what else do I need to mention. Keep in mind, this is as of this year, as the last couple of years, I wouldn't have thought he would have amounted to anything, but he's improved dramatically with some coaching.

Composure. This is one mentally strong and composed person. He gets mental reps in practice and then he comes into game after game and performs at a high level. I do not think Ohio State has had a backup as capable in my lifetime. Kudos to Kenny Guiton.

Re:Kenny G. Really? Think about the original Kenny G. I'm firmly against this as a nickname.
