QB Stephen Collier (Official Thread)

I am so glad he is apart of the Buckeye family. I had a chance to coach him when he lived in Northern Kentucky. He was in the same youth program as Drew Barker, they would have gone head to head in high school this year, had he not moved.

Stephen is the son of a coach and comes from a very high quality family. He is going to put in the time to become better everyday and he is very well disciplined. I love all of his upside.

Welcome!

Lee County?s Stephen Collier poses for a photo shoot during this week?s ESPN RISE Elite 11 competition.

LEESBURG ? Stephen Collier didn?t expect the text message ? the final little memory that he was able to take away from a week that most football players only dream about.

The Lee County quarterback and Ohio State commit was on his way back to Georgia after participating in the ESPN RISE Elite 11 competition with the best high school QBs in the world, and he got a text from former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer.

The message said it all.

?He told me to prove him wrong,? Collier said. ?He told me to make him look back and say that he made the wrong decision.?

Collier ? who was one of 18 quarterbacks invited to the Elite 11 competition in Beaverton, Ore., but didn?t make Dilfer?s cut for the coveted final 11 ? fired back a response.

?I told him that I was going to work harder than ever before,? Collier said. ?I appreciate him giving me that chip on my shoulder. Now, more than ever before, I am hungry to be great.?

Collier, a rising senior at Lee County, spent six days in Niketown, a football paradise where he worked out with the best athletes in the country in front of a national TV audience, and he said it was an experience that will only make him a better quarterback.

?It made me hungry to get even better and prove myself even more,? he said.

Collier continued: ?It was great to be there and compete with the best of the best. I didn?t do as well as I could have, but I definitely feel like I am at that level. All of these guys are going to improve and get faster and stronger, and now I have to do the same.?

Collier went through a rigorous schedule of workouts that tested his physical and mental toughness and said it was ultimately his performance in the 7-on-7 competition that likely kept him out of the final 11.

?I wasn?t very surprised when they announced the final 11, because I knew I didn?t do as great as I could have,? Collier said. ?But it was an all-around great experience, and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity.?

Ohio State QB recruit Stephen Collier isn't worried about competition, knows some expect him to be Superman

Ohio State 2014 quarterback recruit Stephen Collier (Rivals.com)

Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
July 17, 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? As another high school quarterback plans to announce his college choice Thursday, with Ohio State among his three finalists, Stephen Collier could offer some perspective on what it means to be an OSU recruit behind center.

?In one way the pressure is lifted off of you, but there's a whole other wave of pressure put on you now,? Collier said in a phone interview Wednesday from his home in Georgia. ?You're done with, 'Where are you going to college?' and having to go to this camp and that camp to make this happen to get an offer. That's all done with, and it's, 'I can breathe, I'm going to college.'

?But now I'm going to a school like Ohio State, so you kind of have to live up to the expectations because everyone thinks you should be phenomenal and never make a mistake and kind of be Superman. But that comes with it. You kind of have to embrace it and love it.?

It looked like he checked down to the shallow receiver a majority of the time. That by itself could explain why he didn't make a lot of noise at the event- no big plays.

Not great at high-visibility camps...excellent in actual game situations.

I sure like hearing this. I tend to forget the camp bias in rankings. Look at Krenzel, I wonder how he did at camps? Maybe he tore it up but he seemed like a guy that just played at a higher level than you would have expected. I'd be fine if Collier had the same kind of success during his time here

We've got studs on offense now and they will be ready by the time Collier is playing. He won't have to win games by himself. Check down to Dontre? Yeah, I'll take that.

Also check down to paris, possibly curtis samuel and in the future even EGW. I'll take that too

Honestly, with the talent on those teams, OSU would've obliterated people with a decent passer at QB. Krenzel had heart, he got the most out of his talent, but he won in spite of his passing ability. The man made plays when we needed them, but man did our offense stagnate against some very average teams.
