As i have eloquently stated previously.

I think Luke's best shot at retaining the job isn't as contingent on a magical # of wins.

In my mind he needs to trot out a disciplined/tough/hard nosed/well organized squad - that maintains most of the off field principals of the Tressel era.

To put a min # of wins at anything over 8 is unfair given the hand he has been dealt.

But I think what many are missing is his vision for the future coaching staff.
He must have a plan. A realistic one and present it as soon as possible to Market Value "Branding" Gene.

With that in mind:
Hypothetical.

If Jeff Davisdon were offered the OC/OL gig, an opportunity to return home /coach his son/replace an underperforming coach.
How much of a pay hit would he take if any.

Market Value Gene thinks he and his wife are worth the market value.
Unforunatley he doesn't feel that way about assistant FB coaches.
Davidson isn't coming home for 200K.
I posit he would if we could get him >750K which is market value.

This would be a home run hire.
An NFL OL coach who has worked for some great coaches and has OC esperieince. Westerville native.

PS:
I give the board my word if I ever run into Bruce Hooley I will put my hands behind his neck and pull his massive fivehead down, kneeing him in the goatee ala Anderson Silva.

The highest-paid coordinators in the Big Ten are only getting in the $300s, and there are maybe 10 assistant coaches nation-wide who are getting over $500K, and you think market value for an OC is >$750K? Your dislike of Bollman and man-crush on Davidson have diddy going overboard as usual here...

The time for Fickell to present his "plan" is after the season, as part of a formal interview/presentation process: for the next 4 months he gets the more important opportunity to audition on-the-job, so this is the time for gameplans.

I respectfully dissent Mr. Bay Buck.

Perhaps I should of been more clear.

Market Value amoug our peer group.
Defined as tier1 programs.

I concur that he wouldn't have an opportunity to get in front of Million Dollar Gene until later but he damn well had better be working on a plan prior to that.
Running into Gene's office with his shirt untucked saying he has an idea of who he wants on his staff won't cut it. He need to tell Market Vlaue Gene "here is who will be on the staff".

Trust me on that, I have experieince in these high level staffing decisions.
He better be prepared.

I would also like to float the posssibility the Mene Gene and the rest of the feckless leadership give Luke the job well before seasons end (post NCAA ruling, Pre Michigan).

My thoughts on this:
If you have fully vetted messrs Meyer, Pellini, Dantonio, and Others - I might and I emphasize might be okay with it as long as I am convinced Luke is capable/has a vision.

I want to believe Luke is compareable to Pat Fitzgerald.
Very similar people and circumstances.

But if he isn't, this is OSU.
A top 5 program of all-time.
You have perhaps the best coach in the nation, not working and with Ohio ties.
You have another coach who is a former OSU captain and on the verge of leading Nebraska back to prominence.
It is a buyers market and we need to leverage that.

Why are we questioning the Luke Fickell decision 48 hours before the opening kick off? And why is this not in the Fickell thread?

Seems to me that the permanent decision needs to be made on Luke before any analysis can be done on the assistants.

Does anyone else type "Luckell" all the time when writing Luke Fickell? My fingers don't seem to be able to get it right. Can we just petition Luke to change his name to Luckell? I'm sure he'll understand. So much faster to say and write. And besides, then he can have just one name, like Madonna, and Prince,... and McLovin.

While we are at it, let's go all out.

HC - Fick
OC/OL - Davidson
RB - Spencer
WR - Meyer
QB - Gruden
OT - Pace
DC/Secondary - LeBeau
LB - Vrabel
CB - Springs

That was fun...

OL - John Hicks' and Orlando Pace's DNA were combined to create Hick-O. The greatest OL coach ever.
