Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens)

There is something about Joe Flacco's face that makes me want to punch it.

I'm sure the unibrow is partly responsible but I think there's more to it than just that...

I love Troy but the Ravens traded up in the first round to get Flacco, even though they already had Troy. You don't trade up in the first for a QB if you think you already have a starter on your roster.

It does suck that he was robbed of his chance by a freak illness.. but again, if Troy were separating himself as the best QB in practices after he got healthy, I don't see why the Ravens wouldn't play him (or at least drastically increase his role in the offense).

Even if Troy was the better QB by a little? You can't see why a team that's winning a good amount of games on their way to the playoffs wouldn't switch from a first round draft pick QB to Troy? Really? You don't fuck with shit in mid season just to fuck with it. I can't see why they would give Troy the job in the middle of the season, even if he were looking great in practice. It's just practice. You fuck with team chemistry in the middle of the year and tank, that head coach is looking for another job.

I know you don't fuck with chemistry in the middle of the season, especially when the starter is doing fine, if not better than expected (or better than his backup has proven he can do).

Especially when the GM's job depends on that starter panning out, seeing as how the GM's the one that used the 18th overall pick to grab a D1-AA QB. Hmmm....

They were winning games, he was looking decent at worst. Troy hasn't really shown us anything in the NFL that gives us any reason to believe he would be doing better. Sucks to say that, but it's the truth.

I'm going to the drunk thread and not returning to this thread, so if I don't respond, that's why. This is an argument that has no end, which is why I ignored Troy's thread after a while.

Troy is a 5th round draft pick while Flacco is a 1st. In the NFL it seems taboo to start a 5th rounder when you have a 1st rounder on your team. For the 5th to get the nod, the 1st has to really suck or get hurt IMO.

Then why did Troy win the job at the beginning of the season?

I don't see what the problem is with admitting that maybe Flacco is just a better QB for the Ravens. Sure, he might not be, but he might be. This other option seems to be getting completely ignored at times.

I couldn't stay away. My self-control is sad, apparently.

There were rumors flying around that Flacco was going to be starting before the end of the season even with a healthy Troy.

I don't see why the Ravens wouldn't have played Troy if they thought he gave them the best chance to win. They saw something they liked in Flacco, apparently. Troy is a young guy. If he was blowing them away in practice, it's not like he's old and is going to be a question mark like a Brett Favre.

All I know is that Flacco did much better than he's getting credit for on here. Troy is my favorite Buckeye ever, but IMO Joe did what he needed to do to solidify himself as the starter. I hope Troy get a shot elsewhere for sure. I'd love to see him in SF.

I'm late to this debate, but I think the point is, Troy could have won every game Flacco won with that defense and run game behind him. Had Troy not gotten sick, Troy would be getting the accolades Flacco is right now. And Flacco's good pub is a direct result of his W-L record, not stats.

All that being said, you can't knock the Ravens for sticking with Flacco. They were winning, and truthfully, very few people expected them to be a .500 team. Once he put a few in the W department, they decided the game experience and momentum were to great to pass up.

I do feel for Troy b/c had he gotten to start, he'd be looking at a nasty payday come contract time. I'm very confident Troy could have posted the same results as Flacco.......

Can't argue with any of that. There are just two ways of looking at it.

Unless you are the Browns, and it's the opposite :smash:

Troy would have continued to start if the team was winning, just like they did with Flacco.

Honestly, had Flacco and the Ravens lost their first few games, I think they protect Flacco and let Troy start until they feel they aren't throwing Flacco to the wolves.

And Flacco wasn't exactly lighting the scoreboard up in his first 3-4 starts. But the Ravens were winning with a great run game and amazing defense. So they didn't mess with the situation.

If Troy doesn't get sick, and he has the same run game and defense behind him, he wins all of those games too. And Baltimore decides to stick the season out with Troy because they are winning.

That damn sickness probably cost Troy 15-20 mill, b/c he could have been under center for this amazing Baltimore season. It had little to do with QB play, and everything to do with physical football and great defense.

I'm not saying Troy would have lit the scorebaord up either, but put Baltimores record behind any second year starter or rookie, and watch as GM's become interested.
