EXPECTATIONS FOR EZEKIEL ELLIOTT FROM FORMER OHIO STATE RUNNING BACKS
When asked what he thought of current Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, an ex-Buckeye bruiser didn't stutter.
"Heisman Trophy," Chris "Beanie" Wells said Friday night after the All-Star Celebrity Bowl out at New Albany High School.
With the way Elliott finished off his sophomore season — a year which ended in Ohio State taking home the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship — such beliefs are frankly expected.
Elliott torched Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon in the post-season for 696 yards and eight touchdowns, earning offensive MVP honors in the title game against Oregon and firmly solidifying himself as the Heisman frontrunner for 2015.
Elliott entered as a 6/1 favorite, but his odds have slipped a touch since January. As Eleven Warriors' own Nicholas Jervey discussed Sunday, it's going to be an uphill battle for the junior from St. Louis to take home college football's most prestigious honor.

Ezekiel Elliott's crop top days were numbered. But yesterday, it became official as new rules and "points of emphasis" were passed by the NCAA:
"Officials will treat illegal equipment issues - such as jerseys tucked under the shoulder pads or exposed back pads - by making the player leave the field for at least one play. The equipment must be corrected for the player to return to the game. The player may remain in the game if his team takes a timeout to correct the equipment issue."

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- All Ezekiel Elliott needed was one healthy wrist to help raise a championship trophy.
The Ohio State running back has two of them now, which might come in handy since the Heisman Trophy is a little bit heavier.
Elliott has insisted that hoisting the latter isn’t his top priority, and the fact he actually can use both hands to carry the football this fall is really only valuable as much as it would help the Buckeyes defend the crown they won a year ago thanks in part to his epic production in the postseason. But he’s at least aware of the preseason hype that has installed him as a frontrunner for the most prestigious individual honor in the game, even while doing his best to ignore it and keep his focus on what he can provide to Ohio State collectively.
“I mean, you see [the projections] on Twitter and stuff,” Elliott said. “But none of that means anything until the season comes around, you strap up and get on the field.
“Honestly, I don’t really care. ... My goal is to win another national championship, so I mean, if the Heisman comes, it comes. But the national championship is more important.”

EZEKIEL ELLIOTT: 'A LINEMAN'S MINDSET, BUT HE PLAYS RUNNING BACK'
Ezekiel Elliott is a Heisman favorite this upcoming season, and for good reason. The running back polished off the 2014-15 season by gutting Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon for a total of 696 yards in the three biggest games of his life. Given that he enters the upcoming season behind a veteran offensive line, fully healthy, and cemented as Ohio State's feature running back, it's no wonder some are even going as far as to suggest he could have a 3,000 yard season.
His gaudy rushing statistics might be what wins him national awards, but they don't quite tell the whole story of why he's on virtually every NFL draft board as first or second round talent. It's his willingness to be physical without the ball in his hands that truly sets him apart.
"Watch Zeke Elliott play when he doesn’t have the football, that’s the key component for me ..." said running backs coach Tony Alford when he talked to the media for the first time after joining the Ohio State staff. "Listen, you can give me the ball — I’m 46 years old and fat — you give me the ball I’ll run as fast as I can, as hard as I can because I’ve got the ball in my hands. But what am I doing when I don’t have it? Am I running 20 yards down the field throwing a block for a guy they threw to the back side receiver?"
