RB Ezekiel Elliott (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Pro Bowl, All Pro, New England Patriots)

"They might be friends because they all live together," Elliott said. "I know Cam Burrows and Mike ... umm ... I don't know his last name [McCray], but I know they are teammates, so that's probably part of the reason they are cool.

"I don't know what the rest of this is about. Whatever it is, I know it better end by the time we get to Columbus because Coach Meyer isn't going to be about no friends on the other side. He wants victories and championships, and I'll gladly walk over Michigan to get both."

Good to be King
OSU pledge Elliott driven by rankings, camps like Gridiron Kings
Updated: July 24, 2012
By Brad Bournival | BuckeyeNation

After winning position MVP honors at the Nike Football Training Camp in Illinois, running back Ezekiel Elliott (St. Louis/John Burroughs) turned his attention to the beginning of July and more importantly to Beaverton, Ore., where Nike's The Opening camp was taking place.

There, to prove his No. 257 ranking in the ESPN 300 was a bit low, Elliott turned it up a notch and blew the doors off more than one opponent while satisfying the viewing audience on ESPNU with his speed. Elliott moved up to No. 172.

Now, the 2013 Ohio State pledge is making sure nobody forgets his name.

So when the 6-foot, 197-pound Elliott wowed the crowd earlier this month, it came with a smile and even more determination as he prepares for the Gridiron Kings from July 27-29 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

"It's always great to compete against the best in the nation," Elliott said. "These camps like the Gridiron Kings and The Opening, only the best of the best get invited there.

"The other reason I go is to improve my ratings at the recruiting sites. It's more of a pride thing. You want to be recognized for what you do and all the work you put in. I don't want anyone to say I didn't go to enough camps or that I didn't really compete against anybody. If I go to the camps and prove I can compete, it says something."

Best 7-on-7 running back
Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside running back Taquan Mizzell has been a 7-on-7 junkie this off-season, but that probably stems more from event and team organizers extending invitation after invitation to the explosive athlete. Mizzell has the tools to be very effective as a wide receiver, but from his spot at running back he is able to create mismatches with linebackers who do not possess his speed or elusiveness. Nobody was able to match Mizzell's four touchdown receptions during Sunday's championship play.
Runner-up: The other Midwest running back, Ezekiel Elliott, got a little overshadowed because his team featured Mizzell along with slot receiver Jalin Marshall and tight end Travis Johnson as check-down options, but the 6-foot, 198-pound Elliott is a deadly receiving option out of the backfield himself and made the most of limited opportunities.

Ezekiel Elliott, a four-star running back from St. Louis rated by Rivals.com as Missouri's top prospect in the 2013 class, said he visited 10 schools -- including Notre Dame, Arkansas, and Missouri. But it was only at Ohio State where his itinerary included a visit with the university president.

Elliott said Gee and his father, Stacy, spoke like old friends about their connection to the infamous "Fifth Down Game," a 1990 contest between Colorado and Missouri in which officials mistakenly allowed the Buffaloes a fifth down that produced the winning touchdown as time expired. Gee was then president of Colorado; Stacy Elliott a defensive back for Missouri.

While Elliott and other recruits took other factors into greater consideration -- coaches, facilities, tradition -- he said meeting with Gee "made me feel more comfortable at Ohio State."

"He's a fun guy," Elliott said in a phone interview Tuesday.
