RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

Lot of hype in this thread about Smith, but why so little interest on the national level or even in the MW? Grades?? Anyone seen this kid live?

He already has a 4 star rating by scout and is getting interest from us and Georgia. I love this offer just based on the size of this kid combined with his stats and what cbf40 said. High interest in us and an upcoming visit sounds like dancing bananas could be coming soon...

Affirmative on the grades. He has had to work hard just so he could get an offer from tOSU, I hear. Also, being a good player in Indiana is not quite the same as in Ohio or Texas. They don't seem to get quite the same amount of attention, no matter how good they are. I have seen him live a couple times...a man among boys out there. Hard to bring down being as big as he is. Some more offers will definitely follow.

Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Harding running back Rod Smith says he has received a written scholarship offer from the Buckeyes.

"They saw a couple of my highlight films and they sent my coach a scholarship offer," Smith said. "I was super excited. Ohio State is one of the colleges I've wanted to go to."

The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Smith rushed for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior season.

Smith is an outstanding athlete who combines size with speed and power. He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds and averages 15 points and 11 rebounds per game on the Harding basketball team.

Smith has been to Ohio State on more than one occasion including attending the Ohio State-Minnesota game last season.

Smith spoke to both Jim Tressel and Doc Tressel on Sunday.

"They want me to stay in touch," Smith said. "Coach (Jim) Tressel said to stay focused and keep my head in the books."

Smith said he will likely select a college shortly before the football season begins or not long after.

"My top three are Ohio State, Georgia and Iowa," he said. "Iowa has offered, but Georgia hasn't."

Really, really excited about this offer. If his grades come around, we will be getting a good one. From all accounts, Smith is OSU all the way. I have a feeling after the services see his highlights and when the offers start rolling in, he is going to be a top 100 guy.

Imagine how good this kid will be when college coaches get a hold of him and teach him to run with his eyes open.

During Roderick Smith's three-year career, he?s amassed 5,285 yards on the ground. Smith now has offers from Ohio State and Iowa and says the Buckeyes remain his solid favorite. "They have amazing history," Smith said. "I've always liked everything about them. I grew up on Ohio State. The coaches there are great people and I've gotten to talk with them a few times already. I've even..."
