RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

:shake:

Damn. Too bad, the kid had a shot to really earn some serious PT in my opinion.

So, 3 starters suspended before the start of the season. National Championship opportunity and these guys can't stay out of trouble. Hope it's nothing major, for Rod's sake.

I don't see how that changes much. If it's only one game hell be the main back for two games before Jude's back. If he tears it up in those two games he'll get plenty of playing time.

It changes alot in the preparation leading up to the season.
His number of reps with the ones will go way down now and Hall will have to practice for two different positions.
Really thought the Hyde suspension would be the opening that Smith would take full advantage of and "blow up". Now not so sure.

I'm really disappointed in Rod Smith.

Does anybody still think these suspensions are about keeping up appearances for the media who are treating Ohio State and Coach Meyer unfairly? Nobody knew about the Smith incident until today - it happened 6-7 months ago. It wasn't on the police blotter, so it was conceivably less severe than Roby's situation yet he's being dealt with just as harshly.

Nobody in the media was looking for Coach Meyer to act on discipline for Rod Smith. If Meyer's discipline was being influenced mainly by the media instead of by his own standards for the program, then he would have had no reason to deal with Smith in this manner.

I think you are right jlb. Think Meyer is trying to get the negative media attention away from the Buckeyes by coming down hard on anything out of line. Not sure if it will work because Ohio State seems to be hated on no matter what , but I don't think punishments should be handed out for punishment sake and certainly not for the sake of the shit head media. Seems strange for this to come to rise 7 months later for Smith. I can get behind the Roby and Hyde suspensions, but I just don't understand this one. Don't know the facts but it seems odd.

Maybe it was something that required Rod to do X, Y and Z in order to play in the first game and Rod didn't do one of the things on the list. I'm not trying to start any kind of rumor mind you but Urban has had requirements other than just being suspended in the past.
