Ronnie Bianco | For The Dispatch

DeSales running back Warren Ball, an Ohio State recruit, had 195 yards rushing in a 25-14 win over Watterson.

Warren Ball Sr. remembers the last day his son played a position other than running back.

Warren Jr. was 7 years old and lining up at tight end with a Pee-Wee team because even back then he certainly was no pee-wee.

?They ran a reverse for the tight end, and he made a move and everyone just went crazy,? his father said. ?He went all the way for a touchdown. The coach said, ?Let?s run that play again.? Warren did the same thing again. They ran it again and again, and Warren kept scoring.?

As a 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior at DeSales, Ball is continuing to run around and through would-be tacklers. He has run for 1,083 yards and 27 touchdowns on 197 carries entering a Division III regional semifinal against Elida (8-3) on Friday night at Clayton Northmont.

Ball is showing football fans what Ohio State coaches saw in him when they offered a scholarship that he quickly accepted during a summer camp in 2010. He missed most of his sophomore season because of a pulled groin muscle and junior year because of a high ankle sprain.

?We turn to Warren in big games,? coach Ryan Wiggins said. ?Warren wants the football in his hands. He comes through for us even though the defense knows he?s coming.?

In a 25-14 victory over Watterson, Ball gained 195 yards and scored two touchdowns on 44 carries. He ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in a 27-10 victory over St. Charles. He ran for six touchdowns against Reynoldsburg and five against Brookhaven in victories.

Defenses gang up on Ball because he doesn?t go down easily.

?I just take ice baths (after games),? he said, smiling.

Mr. Ball has had his Senior Highlights posted to www.scoutingohio.com recently and I am very impressed. After watching his Junior and Senior year films I really see him as a 1,500 yard back by his Junior Year (I know that he's had injuries, but pending an injury problem). He has tremendous speed on the outside, great vision and the size to get the extra yard. He cuts ridiculously quick in the hole as well and I don't see that very often from a High School RB. Really happy to see him in the S&G!

Even though I'm comfortable with just this kid being our only RB in this class(assuming Dunn decommitts) but his durability osu a Tad concerning. We like to see him share the backfield. He just adds to our already great depth
