Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Agree he has potential to be special...but top 3? Yikes. That's going way out on the limb to me. I hope you are right though!

Yup, I'd mostly have him up there based on his potential at this point. I just think his ceiling is incredibly high with him being so young. His combine stats/numbers were pretty insane for a kid who's a whole class ahead of where he should be.

I really think he's going to blow up this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see him crack the top 100 by signing day.

Then again, I've been known to have my scarlet blinders on before.

Looks like that list is from December. I'm sure it will be updated pretty soon.

That makes sense, I was about to say...

I agree with this. As of now he is not in my top 5 for Ohio but by the end of the year he likely will be. Once he grows into his body and matures more physically, Campbell is going to be lights out either at corner or as a pivot type guy. I just need to see more on the highlight film or on the camp/combine circuit...fantastic numbers but he is a little stiff and still needs to work on some things. However, I do think all of the issues I see on film will be resolved as he develops. My top 10 for Ohio right now would be:

1. Marshon Lattimore
2. Dante Booker
3. Jimmy Byrne
4. Kyle Trout
5. Marcelys Jones
6. Michael Ferns
7. Kyle Berger (really interchangeable from 3-7 imo...I like Jones just as much as an interior guy as Byrne and think Trout has more potential down the road...Byrne is just more ahead physically at this point)
8. Parris Campbell
9. Erick Smith
10. Darius West (or Kief)

Does anyone have any idea what the 247 Composite rankings actually measure?

The Malik Hooker offer got me looking at his ranking by the various services.

247 - 4* & #34 Ath
247 Composite Ranking - 4* #25 Ath & #258 overall

Rivals N/R
Scout N/R
ESPN N/R

So if none of them have him rated then where is the composite score coming from?

The 247Composite Rating is the industry's most comprehensive and unbiased prospect ranking and is also used to generate 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. We'll continue to offer the same standard 247Sports player rankings as well.
Here are the gritty details ...

The 247Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect "rankings" and "ratings" listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services. It converts average industry ranks and ratings into a linear composite index capping at 1.0000, which indicates a concensus No. 1 prospect across all services.

All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Composite Rating.

The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.

A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.

All industry services have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

Yeah I read their FAQ. The question still stands...what are the 'major media recruiting services' they're using? Because going by Hooker's numbers they can't be using Rivals, Scout and/or ESPN.

Yes I've wondered the same thing as well. What other rankings are there even? If they're using another services rankings for their composite then you think they would give credit to the services they're using.

Also, from the article, "A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect.". There's only four bars, are they not including their own rankings?

Allen Wallce shut down SuperPrep a few months back. I have no idea what in the world is going on with Max Emfinger. I'm sure there are still some pay only services that cater to coaches.

My best guess right now is that they correctly listed themselves as the only service that has evaluated Hooker and there is just some discrepancy with their own numbers.
