Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

It's definitely more of a down year in Ohio. I'm not worried at all. I don't think this class gets filled with anything but studs the rest of the way.

Even if this year ended up being a slight down year (kind of like 2003 & 2007 were for Tressel), I still think this class be much more talented than any of Tressel's less impressive recruiting years.

Urban can't open.

I went back & checked the closest ESPN rankings to this time last year to compare with the current crop.

2014
Damon Webb - **** #8 CB, #1 TSUN, #57 National
Dante Booker - **** #8 OLB, #3 OH, #156 National
Jalyn Holmes - **** #6 TE, #7 VA, #293 National
Kyle Berger - **** #26 OLB, #11 OH, #299 National
Kyle Trout - *** #22 OT, #13 OH
Dylan Thompson - **** #28 DT, #10 IL
Lonnie Johnson - **** #41 WR, #5 IN
Parris Campbell Jr. - *** #38 RB, #15 OH
Sam Hubbard - *** #28 OLB, #21 OH
Marcelys Jones - *** #34 OG, #22 OH
Sean Nuernberger -

2013
Eli Woodward - **** #3 CB, #1 NJ, #11 National
Cameron Burrows - **** #4 CB, #1 Ohio, #19 National
Joey Bosa - **** #6 DT, #14 FL, #44 National
Jalin Marshall - **** #8 Ath, #3 Ohio, #74 National
Marcus Baugh - **** #4 TE, #10 CA, #126 National
Evan Lisle - **** #11 OT, #7 Ohio, #145 National
J.T. Barrett - **** #6 Dual QB, #28 TX, #185 National
Billy Price - **** #16 DT, #11 Ohio, #201 National
Jayme Thompson - **** #11 S, #12 Ohio, #203 National
Michael Hill - **** #17 DT, #4 SC, #229 National
Ezekiel Elliott - **** #25 RB, #3 Missouri, #255 National
Tracy Sprinkle - *** #43 DE, #29 Ohio
Darron Lee -
Johnny Townsend -

Is there a significant difference between Evan Lisle & Kyle Trout? Billy Price & Dylan Thompson? Jayme Thompson & Parris Campbell?

To be honest the biggest difference between the two classes that I see is that this time last year Cam, Jalin & Bosa had committed while Marshon, Erick & Kwon haven't so far this year. Add those three and the classes are very similar.

As far as the class top 10 comparison goes (using the 247 composite):
1. Marshon Lattimore <> Jalin Marshall
2. Dante Booker <> Cam Burrows
3. Michael Ferns <> Dymonte Thomas
4. Kyle Berger <> Evan Lisle
5. Parris Campbell <> Michael McCray
6. Derek Kief <> Taco Charlton
7. Erick Smith <> Shelton Gibson
8. Kyle Trout <> Gareon Conley
9. Darius West <> Malik Zaire
10. DeShone Kizer <> Jake Butt

I'm not seeing the massive difference that some people are claiming at the top.

FWIW 2014 has one 5* in Ohio (Lattimore). 2013 had 0 (Jalin was rated a 4*). The first 3* in 2013 was #20 Jaron Dukes; in 2014 it was #17 Ethan Wolfe.

Edit: Added Jalyn Holmes

Rivals - Expanding the Ohio rankings to 100

7/9

1. Lattimore
2. Booker
3. Ferns
4. Berger
5. Horton
6. Byrne
7. Trout
8. West
9. Smith
10. Ballew
11. Campbell
15. Hubbard

I realize they are just trying to be different but their state rankings are always just awful. Horton is WAY too high, as is Ballew. Then you have Marcelys Jones (who just blew up the camp circuit and has offers from everyone) at #24 behind Krok, Burns, and Richardson...only OL you could argue to be higher than Jones is MAYBE Trout and Byrne. I could go on for awhile but that is just a pathetic attempt. And my top 20 would be:

1. Marshon Lattimore
2. Dante Booker
3. Kyle Berger
4. Michael Ferns
5. Marcelys Jones
6. Jimmy Byrne
7. Parris Campell
8. Kyle Trout
9. Erik Smith
10. Deshone Kizer
11. Derek Kief
12. Sam Hubbard
13. Darius West
14. Dariean Watkins
15. Joe Henderson
16. Daniel Cage
17. Josh Krok
18. Chris Frey
19. Nick Richardson
20. Tegray Scales

My first observation is that I hope this list can start to silence people who think that urban cant keep the top Ohio talent in state. Looking at the top 25, elite Ohio talent, OSU is cleaning up with the best, and I'm glad these same guys have been proving it at camps around the country as well showing Ohio kids are as good as any other.
Also, what happened to Davonte James? I thought at one time he was a top 10 in the state kid, and now it seems like he's fallen off into the category of lower tier big 10 and MAC school lists.
