Scholarship Breakdown by Class

A) Implies 37 could leave at the same time and that's a lot of holes to fill
B) I prefer a flatter 'chart' .. like 20'ish per class
C) I like succession planning.. and gaps between folks in the same position queue
D) Could be a major blocker for premier recruits wanting playing time (when the skew is FR/Soph)
E) I have a perception that Fr/Soph make more mistakes than Sr/Jr

Well, the chart will flatten out as we move forward. There aren't going to be 37 sophomores next year, they'll be 20-some and there will be 30-some freshman and resdshirt freshman again. Same thing should happen the year after that since the next two graduating classes (current juniors and sophomores) will now have 15 and 14 scholarship players max. After that we should have a fairly even distribution.

I have us with plenty of room - at least for H backs.

I agree with the idea of smooth progressions, but it never seems to work out - especially at particular positions. I remember under JT it seemed like we replaced two thirds of our D one year and two thirds of our O the next.

As it is, the best I can determine 13 true frosh are redshirting - which means 24 move forward to be Sophs (10 more than our current Soph class of 14). That number could easily shrink to the point that by the time they are seniors it will be 17 or 18. And with what just happened to Carter and Underwood perhaps fewer still.

In any case, 37 is a lot - two full teams and 15 subs. The best of these (barring injuries) will still be around three years from now. Seven of that group are named Barrett, Marshall, Samuel, McMillan, Lee, Apple and Nuernberger. I can't recall that many first year players contributing at such a high level since 1968.

Should be a fun three years and after that let's see where the chips lie.
