Derrick "LLL" Green (RB ttun transfer to TCU)

Probably just wants to go to visits and see some games. He's only halfway through his hs career, imagine he'll just wait it out a bit. Probably just enjoying the process and wants to see who offers, once it gets annoying I imagine he'll shut it down.

I have him in the Jalin Marshall/Caleb Day/Cam Burrows category of I'd be shocked if he didn't choose us.

7/14

By The Bank....Offered by Penn State & Virginia Tech after attending camps at both. Ran a 4.31 forty at Penn State's camp. Visiting Tennessee this weekend & expects them to offer. Would like offers from Alabama & Oregon. Mentions being close to Brionte Dunn & talks to the Ohio State staff frequently.

Thoroughly enjoyed his film. Kid is a load to bring down. Reminds me of a classic Big 10 runner, runs tough off tackle, willing to truck whoever's in front of him, and can get to the second line of defense in a hurry. I would like to see a little more of his hands catching the ball, and wonder how well he blocks, but that's nitpicking and stuff he really doesn't need to worry about in HS. Hate to say it, but he reminds me a little of John Clay on the collegiate level and Cedric Benson on the pro level with how he runs

His tape looks really good but should be a completely different player this year after dropping over 10 lbs and reshaping his body and drastic speed/quickness improvements.

Live about 90 minutes from Richmond so hopefully get a chance to see him play sometime this year.

I hope from losing that weight, he doesn't lose that ability to run over defenders though. Sometimes when RBs lose weight they aren't able to break tackles as well. He's still gonna be a good one no doubt. A backfield rotation of him, Ball, Dunn(hopefully) and Smith should be outstanding. Idk if the other RBs will still be there or not, but we're gonna continue to have superior depth for a while

Top Gun camper Derrick Green transforms himself into elite running back

Derrick Green remembers how painful it was less than two years ago to be told he wasn't running back material. For a kid who wanted nothing more than to play the position, the words were like daggers.

The worst part of it was Green's coaches and trainers were right. At 268 pounds, and with a 40-yard dash time of 5.2 seconds as a freshman at Hermitage High in Richmond, giving Green a big role in the backfield was out of the question.

"When I first started working out, I told my trainer I was a running back," said Green, who is working out this week at the Football University Top Gun camp at the Warhill High sports complex in Williamsburg. "He said, 'You're not a running back. I see a (defensive) tackle.' I said, 'OK, I'm going to show you.' What he told me just stuck with me. I knew I couldn't be a running back at 268. It just wasn't happening."

That's when the transformation started.

In less than two years, Green has shed almost 50 pounds and trimmed nearly an entire second off his 40-yard dash time. With a breakout junior season this fall, there's a good chance he could be one of the nation's most heavily recruited running backs in the class of 2013.

Virginia and Virginia Tech are already two of a handful of huge programs that have taken notice. At a one-day camp in Blacksburg early this month, he ripped off a 40-yard dash time of 4.37 seconds - a time that has become fairly routine for him. Before he left the camp, he had a verbal scholarship offer from Tech.

He also has offers from U.Va., Penn State, Ohio State and Tennessee. That's an impressive list of suitors for a 16-year-old kid that ran for just over 700 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

A few weeks ago, during a visit to Ohio State, Green was able to get a good look at the place where former Hermitage linebacker Curtis Grant will spend his college days. Grant, who is entering his freshman year at Ohio State, was considered by most recruiting analysts to be one of the nation's top linebackers coming out of high school last year. He's something of a mentor to Green.

"Curtis Grant always told me not to get the big head," Green said. "He told me to stay humble.

"I'm not really going to focus on the offers right now. My main goal is to get my team back to (the state tournament) and get my coach a ring. That's my main focus."
