St. Paris Graham Wrestling

THINK, Before You Speak
Former College Pick'Em Champ
Didn't know where to post this, here seemed as good a spot as any.

A question to anyone out there who follows the St. Paris Graham Wrestling program. A local reporter here in Lake County had a bit in one of his articles during the State Wrestling Tournament that he "overheard" converstions amongst parents of the Graham wrestlers that Felipe Martinez actually beat David Taylor during wrestle-offs this year for the 135 lb. class, then gave Taylor the weight and dropped himself to 130.

Personally, I would have no problem believing this based on what Felipe has accomplished. I would just Love to actually hear from someone who actually knows for fact that a 3-Time State Champion, and one of the best ever in Ohio, couldn't make it out of his own Wrestle-Off. No "Dis" to David, he is a monster. But what a way to start a career for Martinez, huh?

Peace.

I believe it could very well be true. Flowrestling had videos up before the season showing Jordans bran training...and Felipe took Neibert down with relative ease straight to his back (without using the twister) and took Taylor down a few times that looked like he wasn't putting forth much effort.

At first I thought this would be another "Graham recruits" or "Graham is like a professional team" thread...lol

Thanks, "Joe." When I posted this last night I expected about "zero" confirmation and most likely will never get it. The guy who reported it made it very clear that it was strictly heresay. But, when I read his article, and now based on your info, I wouldn't doubt it either. What David has accomplished is amazing. But, the story goes that no matter how good you are, there's always someone better, right? Just so happens to be that the one "better" is three grades behind you, in your own school?

Who knows?

Peace.

Having wrestled for Graham, against David, etc., I can say that Felipe usually got the better of Taylor in the room. It is really amazing because David is probably the best wrestler we have ever had at Graham, and arguably one of the top 5 wrestlers in Ohio history. Felipe is just ridiculous and he might be the next Sanderson. Felipe was beating David as a 7th grader while David was winning nationals as a sophmore. I'll check around to see if the wrestle off actually happened.

Thanks for the great info. I was kinda hoping you'd pipe in here. I have a feeling that you'll find out what the guy reported, seeing that you've seen first hand the "effect" that wrestling against Felipe Martinez can have on most, including the BEST 135 pound wrestler in the country.

Peace.

I really have no doubt Felipe will be the top wrestler in the country regardless of weight class by his senior year, maybe sooner. Good news is if OSU gets in early, they have a legit shot here and that can't be said about many Graham guys.

Two of my friends actually wrestled for Graham this year, one of them winning a state title in Brian Stephens and the other finishing 2nd I believe in his brother Matt.

Yeah I know Brian, he is going to tear it up at VTech...he was a really underrated guy on our team last year.

I've known both of them since we were like 3, so it's pretty cool that they are doing so well.

Sweet, Matt is going to be an animal too once he gets more consistent...possibly better than Brian. He already has some high profile wins.

Thanks for this thread, guys. Even from way down here in North Carolina, I know of St Paris Graham's reputation. So this thread got me curious enough to check them out. Yikes!! That is one heckuva program. 7 state champs this year!!

Just a heads up: Next Saturday at 7 pm, No. 3 Graham wrestles No. 1 Blair Academy, NJ. This is basically the battle of the titans, should be an electric atmosphere...a must see for wrestling fans. Felipe Martinez and Max Thommuseit, Graham's (arguably) best wrestlers, both face the #1 ranked wrestler in the country.

Is this something that can be developed or not?
