Taivon Jacobs (Maryland WR)

The main thing I have to ask is, it's only now his infant becomes a factor in his decision? What, did the stork just drop it off on his doorstep last week? Didn't think so. Not criticizing his desire to be with his kid, but he should have thought of that when he first committed. The only other thing I can think is that he is getting pushed out of his committment by "someone else" committing today/tomorrow, and that would be unfortunate to say the least.
Respectfully disagree. I truly thinks he has always wanted to be a Buckeye. Still does. It's just been nagging at him that he might be making a selfish decision. Why is it coming out now? Because tomorrow is THE day.

Wait! Everyone is speculating. I just mentioned that I never knew he was a father. I don't think Jacobs has ever mentioned the fact about not honoring his commitment because of his child. In fact, we do not even know if he is not going to honor his commitment so let's just wait before we speculate. That is pure speculation on our part unless somebody can find a link to where he says that. I just mentioned that I never knew he was a father.

Got an email saying that multiple RESPECTED sources saying they would not be shocked if he signed with Maryland tomorrow...and OSU might make the decision easier for him now that they have Smith and Wilson in the fold and are still pursuing Clark. As such, going to change him to a soft verbal until there is confirmation one way or the other.

It's a lot easier to go to your dream school and be solid when you're the guy in a position of need. When you take a look around and that isn't the case, or may not be the case... well, I'm sure it gets a lot harder to make that decision. Especially when there are others involved.

I wish him the best with whatever he decides to do. Pray that it's the best for him and his family.

agree with this...this situation seems pretty easy...his chances now of getting on the field right away are becoming slimmer by the day with the competition urban is now bringing in to compete with jacobs...living in his home state, having a child and having one more day to change his mind makes this a pretty easy decision with him...i guarantee everyone who is applauding him for making this decision with his child in mind would be singing a different tune if we didnt have Wilson/Smith/ and possibly Clark/Elliot already in fold

If that's the case then I hope the young man learns from this and better plans for himself and family in the future. He can get away with changing his mind at the last minute in this case (since Maryland still wants him), but once he's in the "real world" he won't always have that option. Again, not criticizing his wanting to be with wife/girfriend and kid, but rather not more seriously considering the consequences of his committment to tOSU back when he pulled the trigger.

My feeling is we've been pursuing WR/RB types for awhile now...guessing the Wilson commitment caught enough headlines for him to reconsider? I really like Jacobs though and hope he sticks with the Buckeyes if we have room (and I am guessing we do). And please don't take this as a slam on the kid because he may have other reasons but if a kid doesn't want to compete for a spot within his own recruiting class...good riddance. UFM is building a competitive atmosphere and I cannot imagine a kid cutting it if he is worried about PT within his own class when the current roster is so thin at the position.

I think it is funny that we as fans (me included), already assume a kid will get passed over and buried on a depth chart w/o them even putting on a S&G jersey just b/c we have received verbals from or are still going after higher recruited skill players. They all still have to come in and compete for PT regardless of their * ranking.

We have had some really good and successful 2 and 3 star recruits make a name for themselves in this program over the last decade. Why can't Jacobs come in, impress and make a big-time impact as a freshman if he chooses to stick w/ the good guys? Just food for thought. I think it is a little early to annoint Marshall, Smith and Zeke as the saviors of our lack of a playmaker issue before they step foot on campus. It is exciting to think about how electric this offense could become though.

Gotta love the in-exact science of recruiting.

I respectfully disagree with you. Milli is right...you had a long time to change.

I know what school is WRU and which one isn't. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for whats best...OSU>Maryland...not even close. Not only has Meyer put a lot of WR's in the NFL but he will have a lot more 4-5 WR formations in the future. Jacobs will also have a chance to play special teams as a returner as a freshmen.

OSU has a shot at the NC in 2013...Maryland has a chance at mediocrity like throughout their history...just sayin.

These are 17-18 year old kids getting pulled in multiple directions that often times do not have the guidance and foresight that many of us may have grown up with. I think it is completely understandable for a kid to have some uncertainty...especially from someone that will be leaving home and their kid to go to an out of state institution.

Regardless of where he goes, I wish him the best of luck for his future and his family.

It is his choice, regardless. While I enjoy this site, I think that there some judgmental people on the site. If Urban has flipped several commitments recently, Jacobs and others are within their rights to re-evaluate their situation. The young man is being is being prudent and analyzing his options.

Also, in the real world businesses and individuals change their course all of the time. Especially if they have skill or advantage (4.35 speed) that differentiates them from the competition.

These players are division I athletes, they camp all over the country and compete to be the best. Competition is never going to be deciding factor for a recruit that tOSU wants. However, if he reconsidering his situation he has to look at all of the pros and cons. Any responsible adult would do the same. Good riddance to the false esoteric group that thinks that fans have the right to condemn a kid's pondering.
