TE Blake Thomas (official thread)

What a great concept, committing to a College and getting a great education. I think many kids fail to realize that is what it is really about. The college itself, the whole package of education with football. Good to hear a great athlete gets the concept....seems very level headed.

I will be rooting for him and after watching his film he is a great get at TE. Reminds me of Dallas Clark....of course I am not saying he will be that great but thats what he reminds me of. Go Bucks

Scouting report: Blake Thomas | TheRinger.com
Smith - 5/20/2011

There's a lot to like about Blake Thomas as an individual player and even moreso as an addition to your team. His talents as a player could very well allow him to be a multi-year starter in college. Depending on how he develops, the potential is there for him to even earn a living off of his abilities someday. Where his greatest impact as a collegian is likely to be is as a role model and leader. The high school program Thomas comes from is one of the most storied and tradition rich you'll find in the country, let alone the state of Ohio. He's received some of the finest coaching available from Ohio high school legend, Chuck Kyle and he's been exposed to some of the best competition in all of high school football. Don't expect Thomas to be intimidated by any venue, opponent, or game situation. Look for him to be an asset to his team on the field and off throughout his college career.

St. Ignatius tight end Blake Thomas, who gave Ohio State an oral commitment earlier this month, has been texting with other 2012 Buckeyes recruits and says everyone he has reached plans to keep their nonbinding commitment.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jim Tressel's resignation did not surprise St. Ignatius junior tight end Blake Thomas, who committed to the Buckeyes on May 16. And Thomas says he and other fellow recruits are firm on their nonbinding oral commitments.

"I'm kind of in shock with coach Tressel's resignation but really not surprised," said Blake (6-4, 240). "In the end though, I feel this will all work out. I believe he resigned for the good of the program and the good of the school."

Thomas said he has not wavered on his oral commitment.

"[Ohio State] will always have a good coach and good football program but the big picture is academics," said Thomas, a Westlake resident. "I will get a good education there, regardless of who is coaching and there's going to be a lot of guys who will still want to play for Ohio State."

Thomas has been texting with other Buckeyes recruits in his class about the news.

"Everyone I've communicated with are keeping their commitment to be a Buckeye," said Thomas, who would not specify which fellow recruits he's been in contact with. "And I still want to be a Buckeye, too."

"Well, I thought all along that this stuff going on at Ohio State has been crazy," said Westlake (Ohio) St. Ignatius tight end Blake Thomas, who committed to Ohio State in May. "But Ohio State will do their thing and they will live on. I have always had a pretty good relationship with Coach Tressel. I am still solid with the Buckeyes and I am not considering any other programs."

“(Tressel) is an amazing man and he really has what is best for his players at heart,” Thomas told Sporting News. “I’m not happy about the news but I still want to be a Buckeye.”

TE Blake Thomas, 6-4, 240, Cleveland St. Ignatius: Thomas gave his commitment in May, and the three-star prospect is similar to Epitropoulos in that he feels Ohio State is his place to be.

?I thought this might be coming with everything that has been in the media lately, but I certainly never expected it to happen at this time,? Thomas said. ?It does not bother me in terms of my commitment to Ohio State. People need to realize that Ohio State is a lot bigger than the football coach. I know I will be surrounded by great people there, and Tressel's decision has no bearing on my decision to go there. I know they will continue to play great football, and I'm going to get a great education.?

St. Ignatius 27, Centerville 8: After losing to Mentor's five-receiver attack last week, the Wildcats (3-1) bounced back against Centerville's triple-option offense. Centerville (1-3) was held to 119 total yards, and its lone score was a fumble return.

St. Ignatius quarterback Eric Williams threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns, including a 79-yarder to wideout Jake Mooney in the third quarter. Ohio State tight end recruit Blake Thomas caught five passes for 55 yards and one TD.

St. Ignatius turns St. Edward's errors into 20-17 triumph

In typical fashion between the two West Side rivals, the game had two lead changes, was tied three times and went down to the late stages of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats (8-2) clinched the game when senior Blake Thomas made a sparkling catch of an Eric Williams pass on third-and-9 play at its 41.

Thomas' reception, his third of the night, went for 13 yards and a first down. With St. Edward out of timeouts, the Wildcats simply had to run out the final 2:24 to give them their fifth victory in the last six games against their rivals.

"I would probably put that in the top five, especially because it came against St. Ed's," said Thomas, who took the ball off the helmet of a St. Edward defender. "It was sitting there for a little bit and I wasn't sure if I was able to get it but I got it out of there."

Thomas and Ignatius beat Kalis and St. Edward in The Holy War...

That's the type of kid you love to see commit to your program - because it is the school he is committing to, not a coaching personality, or a weighing of possible sanctions, or a "what's-in-it-for-me" deal. I'd rather see a true Gator (or Buckeye, as it were) than some five star prima donna who thinks he is owed something for deigning to sign with you.
