TE Blake Thomas (official thread)

With the recent (unfortunate) losses of Griffin, Wood, and Thomas, does that free up three scholarships for the new class?

Note: I don't mean to sound callous with my first post. I have lamented the loss of these three and personally know Jamie Wood to be a first class student athlete. I am simply inquiring as to whether this has any implications on recruiting.

2. Wood is a senior anyway.

You asked if the loss of WOOD, Griffin and Thomas meant there were three free scholarships. So no it was not irrelevant to your question.

And yes we have two more free scholarships.

Actually very relevant, because the loss of Wood is not going to add an extra scholarship for this year. He is a senior, so he counts into the original scholarship count.

Jamie Wood is in his final year of eligibility. He was gone next year without the injury. His scholarship was already being redistributed to next year's class.

OSU was at 84 players for 2014 before losing Griffin & Thomas, who almost certainly will receive medical hardship waivers, returning their scholarships to the total pool.

There are 0 available scholarships, though more will certainly open up with departures to the NFL (Roby, Shazier, maybe Miller), other schools, dismissals or other injuries.

From looking at the scholarship chart, I thought we were at 80 before losing the trio this week. Could be wrong though.

I was going by the running list on scout, which had OSU at 84 with Griffin & Thomas. Wood doesn't change anything since he's only here this year (3 great kids and hard workers, hate to see this :()

hmmm....Scout insider's big board has us at 81, including Wood, Griffin and Thomas.

Neither source includes Frazier, who could be on scholarship right now.

I apologize, you're absolutely right. I misread your response.

Either way, it's a tough loss on those three but given our current scholarship crunch...blessing in disguise?

Uh... he is a very hard worker, was an integral part of the team, and given the need for more than 1 TE in a play sometimes, hardly a blessing. Now we have to take 1 TE in this class.
