Buffalo Bills (official thread)

In what world is this considered an upgrade over Dick Jauron? If I were a Bills fan, I'd be livid.

You have to laugh to keep from crying sometimes. The way I look at it, at least the Buckeyes bring me joy. Watch the friggin Bills take TeBow in the first round now since Gayley is a gator.

Bills add LB Andra Davis and DL Dwan Edwards, both of whom should start in their new 34 defense. They also added Cornell Green to play RT a couple weeks ago, so while it's not exciting at least they are addressing their needs.

Still have MAJOR needs at LT and NT, where they have pretty nobody at all, and probable needs at QB-of-the-future and WR. Will be interesting to see if they go OT (Bulaga?) or NT (Williams?) at #9 overall, and then what that means for their 2-pick: if OT goes first, they probably need to try for a Cam Thomas or Terence Cody (even with a trade-up) next, but if it's Williams first, maybe the Bills try for a Colt McCoy or Tebow...

This just completely baffles me, that a professional team could be so disorganized as to come out of preseason with an established player as their starting QB, only to release him outright 3 games in. It's been a long bad decade for the Bills and their fans, but generally the team has hovered around mediocrity: this is starting to feel like total disarray, like we're entering Raiders territory. I've loved Ralph Wilson my whole life, but it's time for the old man to let go...

The bottom line is Gailey thought he could coach up Trent Edwards. All of a sudden he's demoted and the next week he's cut. Gailey should've known better but he thinks he's a great coach that can turn other people's garbage into gold. How did it all change in two weeks. I'd be willing to bet the answer is sitting in Detroit named Ralph Wilson.

Bills acquired OLB Shawne Merriman off waivers from the Chargers.

Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter
Merriman won't play in Week 9 against Chicago, but should be available for the Bills' final eight games of the season. Merriman hasn't been the same since reconstructive knee surgery at the start of the 2008 season, so we wouldn't expect a whole lot in a Buffalo defense that no longer fits his strengths. The Bills need pass rushers, but recently switched to a 4-3 scheme. Merriman is limited to outside linebacker in a 3-4, and is likely to struggle for immediate playing time. He's basically just a flier for the woebegone Bills' organization.
