Buffalo Bills (official thread)

I wish they would have just gone to these...

That's not to say I don't like the new ones (agree they're easily top-10), I just love the ones above.

Offseason life as a Bills fan:

Source: Bills expect to sign Williams within 24 hours

Orchard Park, NY -- According to a league source, the Buffalo Bills fully expected to sign both defensive end Mario Williams and wide receiver Robert Meachem within the next 24 hours.

UPDATE: Meachem has since signed in San Diego on the initial day of free agency.
...

Your move, Mario!

Blue Skies Nothing but Blue Skies and Brillant Sunshine here in Orchard Park this morning. 47 degrees. The WGR550 remote van just pulled into One Bills Drive.

I feel like Mario is a done deal to the Bills. They will over pay for him and then he'll be a mediocre pass-rusher.

I'll take over paying him. We have been known as a cheap franchise only 2nd to Cincinnati. I think we are moving in the right direction. 'mediocre pass rusher' did make me LOLz

If we did somehow get this deal done we would immediately have one of the best D Lines in the NFL.

Day 3 of the Mario Williams watch in Buffalo... He has spent two nights in town, brought his fiancee in to meet the other players' wives and look at neighborhoods, and he has a 10 AM meeting with management today. Could we see the largest defensive contract in NFL history?

No defensive FA signing is going to be the magic bullet for a team with as much baggage as the Bills, but making this kind of a splash with this kind of a player is called throwing us poor fans a bone. Let's hope the world's oldest front office can get something done for once.

What makes him more than mediocre? Last year he suffered a major injury. The year before that he had 8.5 sacks. Pretty average. Year before that, 9.

Thats a pretty simplistic view IMHO. Being a lineman and creating pressure on a consistent basis is just as important as racking up sacks. We have sorely lacked that in Buffalo and I'll take Williams every day of the week. We missed that pressure for a very long time.

Right, but I usually guage how much pressure a guy is causing by the amount of sacks they are producing, at least in a role like Mario's.
Maybe you're right though, but while it remains to be seen what the $ amount is on the contract, I'd feel pretty confident in saying his pay will be much higher than he is worth, at least when compared to his peers.

Plain and simple Buffalo will have to overspend to get a big time free agent to sign.

Is he going to make them a super bowl contender? Absolutely not. But the Bills Front Office needs to show the fans that they are at least willing to try to field a respectable team.

Re-signing Stevie was a sign that the bills were at least willing to give it a try. Ralph Wilson will not be around much longer so this is likely his final push. There are a lot of pieces in place and the past couple of drafts under Nix have been solid.

Signing a Free Agent like Super Mario will show other players that this place has potential and is willing to spend money.

I just hope they can lock him down.

Yeah, but that's the nature of free-agency economics, because the players have leverage that draftees and RFAs don't. 53 sacks in 5+ years is a heck of lot more than the Bills have gotten through the draft (Alex Carrington, Aaron Maybin, Chris Ellis, lol), and this is a team that has cash to spend with the salary-cap floor coming up next year. C'mon Buddy Nix, overspend your heart out!
