The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL)

Always brings a lump to this old throat.

Having been at the game, let me say that the AT&T is terrific, with one small criticism. The acoustics are such that the bands (both of them) are difficult to hear. Nonetheless, magnificent performance by TBDBITL, and the Buckeyes of course!
I have to agree........I was at the game, and had the same problem. Although a lot of people might consider this a minor flaw, I'm a true TBDBITLphile. My brother was a member, and I, too, was disappointed with the on-field sounds of both bands. All things considered though, I wouldn't have been anyplace else.

GO BUCKS!!!! :urban2:

Uh oh, the head of the School of Music claims he was not told of the decision to fire Waters ahead of time. i.e. someone jumped outside the chain of command.

“The shocking decisions made in July were done without my knowledge, or even my input, without valuing or even reading my most recent evaluations of Jon’s work, and most disappointing, without any other information than a report we all know now is filled with error, omission, even rumors,” Blatti wrote. “To say I am appalled is a gross understatement and does not describe my feelings of frustration, helplessness, and anger.”

Look out Prez.

REPORT: THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND TO PERFORM AT LONDON'S WEMBLEY STADIUM DURING AN NFL HALFTIME

The Best Damn Band in the Land might soon be known as The Best Damn Band in the World.

Ohio State's marching band is off to London, according to CNN's Coy Wire. TBDBITL will play at historic Wembley Stadium during halftime of the Jacksonville Jaguars-Buffalo Bills "slobberknocker" on October 25th.

So don't fret, British people duped into paying money for to witness this game, because that purchase just got redeemed.

OSU also noted in its release that “the NFL will cover all of the band’s travel costs for the London trip.”

The Brits LOVE brass bands, military bands and the Edinburgh Tattoo. I've been wondering when The Best Damn Brass Band In The Land/World would get an invite to show off their craft.

Just sayin': If you thought that the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo was something football players traded their jewelry for you are wrong, it is really quite an extravaganza of a show. They set up a (temporary) large "horseshoe" stadium in front of Edinbourgh Castle for the performances:

Comment by a user named--you guessed it--Script-Ohio:
And I bet you FAR less than 1% of current and former members have ever heard this song. I was in for 5 years and never have. Some idiot wrote this song, or copied it from the internet, and him or some other idiot put it in some random version of a songbook. That's as far as most of these songs go and most people never hear or sing the vast majority of them. It's stupid to think that this reflects "band culture".

I don't think that this John Waters would act in such bad taste.

HAPPY 50TH TO THAT SONG WE ALL LOVE TO KNOW.Hang On Sloopy turned 50 on Friday, and it wouldn't have happened without the vision of one brave man who refused to accept the status quo's bullshit.

John Tatgenhorst was just a student when he began arranging rock ’n’ roll music for the marching band.

His first was “A Hard Day’s Night.” His most enduring was “Hang on Sloopy.”

His mentor, Charles “Charlie” Spohn, believed in giving School of Music students opportunities to shine in the classroom and on the field. He trusted Tatgenhorst’s sense of what songs would resonate best with crowds in Ohio Stadium.

Tatgenhorst, who became a professional composer for clients including Coca-Cola and Warner Bros., is proud that generations of Buckeyes have embraced “Sloopy.”

“I like it a lot – particularly when the team needs another kick,” he says. “It seems to put adrenaline into the team and crowd somehow.”
