Penn State's projected depth chart at LB next season.

Even at Linebacker U., those numbers will be hard to replace. Trying to replicate Mauti and Hodges isn't going to happen, so the Lions are going to have to find a different way to reload under Ron Vanderlinden.

Well, at least in their own delusional way they are preparing for some rough sledding at what once was LB U.

Here's their depth:

OLB

Mike Hull, rJR
4-star #7 OLB on Rivals
5-star #1 MLB on Scout

Zayd Issah, FR
3-star no rating ATH on Rivals
4-star #18 OLB on Scout

MLB

Glenn Carson, SR
4-star #13 ILB on Rivals
4-star #7 MLB on Scout

Brandon Bell, FR
3-star #42 ILB on Rivals
3-star #17 MLB on Scout

OLB

Nyeem Wartman, SO
3-star #35 OLB on Rivals
3-star #32 OLB on Scout

Ben Kline rSO
3-star #27 ILB on Rivals
3-star #24 OLB on Scout

Gary Wooten, rFR
3-star #75 OLB on Rivals
NR NR on Scout

Those 7 players are the only LBs they have on the entire team.

But have no fear! they may or may not scrape the bottom of the barrel for another LB in the 2013 class to help out with depth.

Also

Names to Watch: Only Carson will depart after this season, and Penn State has added four linebackers in the past two recruiting classes. This will allow the Lions to be selective if they want to take a linebacker in the Class of 2014, and some of the names that should pop up along the way include: Dante Booker (St. Vincent - St. Mary HS (Akron, OH)), Bryson Allen-Williams (Cedar Grove HS (Ellenwood, GA), Korie Rogers (Buford HS (Buford, GA)), Kevin Crosby (Bamberg Ehrhardt HS (Bamberg, SC)), Troy Reeder (Salesianum School (Wilmington, DE)), Kevin Mouhon (Norcross HS (Norcross, GA)).

Yes, those super high quality players PSU has signed over the past two recruiting classes at LB will allow them to be selective and only target the best of the best in 2014.

Clearly LB U is heading to good places. :slappy:

Move over Penn State. Ohio State is the new “Linebacker U” -- and the Buckeyes claimed the title in a blowout. In many of these positional rankings, only a handful of points separate first and second place. At linebacker, the Buckeyes finished nearly 50 points ahead of second-place Alabama. But when your players stockpile national awards and All-America honors and then many more go on to become NFL draft picks, you put your program in position to rank at the top of this list. Players such asA.J. Hawk, James Laurinaitis and most recently Ryan Shazier have done that in Columbus.

Cont'd ...
