Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

Tiger Woods pulls out of three events after back surgery, hopes to play in 2016

Just when he had begun showing occasional glimpses of progress and his former championship self, Tiger Woods is back on the mend.

The star golfer will be forced to pull out of three PGA Tour events following another back surgery, Woods announced via his official website Friday.

The site said Woods underwent a second "successful" microdiscectomy surgery on his back late Wednesday -- with the first having been done on March 31, 2014.

Tiger Woods concedes chase for Nicklaus, sounds near end of career

tumblr_nyp463Phuk1qem99po1_1280.jpg

Nobody really knew what Tiger Woods was going to talk about at his press conference on Tuesday promoting the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Probably some cliched quips about getting his feels back and getting ready for the Masters in April.

Instead, we got the saddest version of Woods we've ever seen.

He talked about there being "no timetable" for a return. He talked about how his exercise these days is just walking. He talked about how he plays video games just to pass the time.

"There's really nothing I can look forward to, nothing I can build towards," said Woods. "It's literally just day by day and week by week and time by time. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel? I don't know."

Woods said he didn't know whether he'd be surprised if he wasn't back playing golf a year from now. That was one of the most unsuspecting but telling things he noted.

We knew after Woods' second (and third) back surgery earlier this fall that the road back would be even longer than it was after his first in March 2014. What we didn't anticipate is how downtrodden a sweaty, uncomfortable Woods would be on Tuesday.
.
.
.
But then, Woods had another back surgery. And another. We figured he would bounce back, optimistic as ever. That's who Woods is after all -- on the course and off it. At least, it's who he appears to be in his press conferences. He never concedes. He never gives in.

Woods has never once insinuated during his career that he would fail to catch Jack Nicklaus and his 18 major championships. Even when it seemed bleak, Woods was right there charging on towards the Golden Bear. He built his entire career around the idea that eventually he would be the greatest (and most accomplished) golfer of all time.

Until Tuesday when, from an island off the southeast corner of Florida, Tiger Woods pulled a white flag out of his back pocket and sat it on the table. He picked it up and looked at it. He set it back down.

"I think everything beyond this will be gravy," he said. "If that's all it entails, then I've had a pretty good run."

Golf journalist Robert Lusetich reported Monday that Woods' condition has "worsened" and he does not have a set date for a return to the course. The former world No. 1 reportedly "can't move well" and has trouble sitting, so he must sit in the car with the seat fully reclined.

Lusetich added that about 90 to 95 percent of microdiscectomies, the procedure Woods had, are successful, meaning the star golfer "got unlucky." Lusetich added Woods' career isn't over, but there is no "imminent return."

Tiger Woods says he only has one regret in life, and guess what it is.....

Tiger Woods still believes he'll break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 majors

In the interview, Woods discussed his time away from the PGA Tour, what it will take to win again, family life and possible regrets.

"You know, if you look back," Woods said, "the only regret I have in life is not spending another year at Stanford, and I wish I would've had one more year."

When pressed about the scandal and controversy that has followed Woods since his much-publicized divorce in 2010, Woods stood by his statement.

"All the things I've been through are tough, yes," Woods told Rose. "They've been tough, but they've been great for me. But I wish I would've gone one more year at Stanford."

So banging miscellaneous girls while married to a model - do not regret. Missing another year of partying at school - do regret. Meh, sounds about right.

Just give it up already. You have been passé for almost 10 years. No one cares. You ain't catching Jack, and golf has moved on without you (playing, at least). No one can or should tell you not to play...if you actually play...but stop acting like anyone still thinks you are the center of the golf universe.

Tiger Woods announces his first major equipment endorsement deal since Nike stopped making golf equipment

Of course if the Nike golf stuff that Tiger endorsed was any good Nike would still be manufacturing the stuff.

Agree with the above, and agree that the pros don't fear him like they used to, but the fans flock when Tiger is teeing it up. Ultimately, that makes for bigger purses, and ergo, better play (?). He still draws a crowd. Don't believe (hope) that Tiger catches Jack, but you can never tell. The game has been diluted by MANY good players that can go low on any given course, but they cannot seem to do it consistently. Actually, I watch the girls (better legs), but they hit the ball more like I do, than the guys. Actually, the distaff side hits it farther than I do now. Back to Tiger. I applaud him for regrouping, after personal and physical woes. Hope, that he makes it somewhat back, because he's trying to recapture his once greatness, and to pad his bank account. As we all would. Anyway, I believe the Golden Bear's records will stay intact.
