Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

LOL, Tom Herman got a commitment from a consensus 5-star before Jim Harbaugh did.

3 star OL Dixie Wooten tweeted within the last hour he'll announce tomorrow afternoon around 1:00pm. Has interest, but not offers, from UT and ATM. 24/7 crystal ball currently shows a 50/50 split for UT/UH, so take what you will from the fact he'll announce tomorrow when he doesn't even have an offer from UT.

As the nation's No. 5 defensive tackle, Oliver is a player that many coaches want and many players want to play alongside. His commitment is exactly what the Cougars needed, as they now not only have a signature pledge in the 2016 class but also have someone who can recruit players around the greater Houston area.

Take 4-star defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, for example. The Houston prospect, who attends Westside High School minutes away from Oliver, announced his top eight, which included three SEC schools, two Pac-12 schools and a Big 12 and Big Ten school.

And Houston.

...

"I like the legacy that we can build," Elliott said of Houston. "Me and Ed combined would be a scary sight."

...

Among the potential commits are Elliott, wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, defensive end Isaiah Chambers. The common denominator? All of the aforementioned are 4-star talents who live minutes away from the Houston campus.

The connection among Houston players is as solid as any nationwide. The players, although competitors, are very tight-knit, and they have had multiple discussions about aligning in college to form one Houston-oriented megapower.

Tom Herman lands Houston’s highest-rated recruit in over a decade, possibly ever

ed-oliver-rivals.jpg

Houston’s new head coach has yet to coach a game, but he’s already making things happen. As best we can tell right now, new Houston head coach Tom Herman has broken down a wall that Houston has yet to climb since as far back as 2002.

Class of 2016 defensive tackle Ed Oliver, rated four stars and the seventh-best defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals, has given Herman and Houston his verbal commitment. This, of course, is a long way from becoming officially official with National Signing Day not until next February. It is, however, a sign that Herman is already having an impact on the recruiting trail at his new gig. While Oliver receives four out of five stars from Rivals, other recruiting services are a tad higher on him (he has a five-star composite ranking according to 247 Sports).

(It was 25 years ago) but apparently Andre Ware wasn't rated that high as a recruit:

Dixie Wooten III, 3-star OG from Lamar (Houston), just committed to UH. Rumblings are Tyrie Cleveland, a 4-star WR (ESPN #89) and A&M decommit, could be the next, and soon.

“There are a bunch of us on a group message. I can’t think of all the guys, but I know that Darius Anderson, the defensive tackle from Hightower and his teammate Michael Johnson are on it,” Wooten said. “We talk about the fact that it’s time to takeover, the city of Houston and college football.

“I think that it’s about to blow up.”

If Houston can indeed lure Isaiah Chambers (ESPN #128) & Michael Johnson to pair with Oliver (ESPN #6) & Elliott (ESPN #46), that's quite a haul for a defensive front. Also have Jeffrey McCulloch (#184) & Dontavious Jackson (#195) at complementary LB positions, and Eric Monroe (#83) at SS without leaving the city limits.

H-Town takeover? Tom Herman's message spreads fast at Houston

Tom Herman can’t talk about one recruit yet, even if it’s a 5-star defensive tackle who offered a verbal commitment to Houston over schools such as Alabama and Texas A&M last week.

Why Houston? Herman launches into a five-minute speech, stops, says “Long story short” and digs in a little more. He’s more than prepared to answer that question.

Herman calls Houston “an unbelievable vixen,” and it didn’t take long for the Broyles Award winner to feel the home-grown pull of the fourth-largest ciy in the United States. That makes it easier to understand why a blue-chip high school kid might feel the same thing.

“There are three, four, five generations from the city of Houston,” Herman told Sporting News. “They are entrenched in the city. Our message is, ‘You’ve grown up here and started your legacy here. Let’s change college football together here.’”
