I saw earlier that Houston is the fourth largest city in the U.S. I would think that ol Bavarian Tom could do quite well for himself keeping the locals at home.

Herman showing that he can out recruit big national teams at a mid major. A talent gap alone will win him his conference title in a year or two. winning recruiting titles and games and I bet he is out of there by the time these kids are seniors.

Probably.
But I think it's also a matter of fact that BXII has to at least consider adding 2 more every year... and if they do, they'll have to come from the Mid Major ranks. Moreover, they don't seem bright enough to add schools outside the State of Texas.
He's following a similar route as TCU... in the slim chances that it turns out that way, he could stay.

According to posters on Scouts Houston forum that have attended clinics and luncheons, Tom Herman is using "the turtle story," but has of course replaced Earle Bruce/Woody Hayes with Urban Meyer.

HOUSTON — Early on an already sultry morning, the rookie head coach stops practice and gathers his team. It is the fourth day of the University of Houston’s preseason football camp. It is hot. First-year coach Tom Herman is not happy with the effort he’s getting from his players.
“The price of championships is really high,” he says, raising his right arm high over his head to indicate how high the standard should be, raising his voice to indicate how hot he is on the subject. “It will never come down to your level. To do the things you want to do on gameday, it’s doing it over. And over. And over. And over. And over. Again. And again. And again. And again. And again. We have some who are ready to pay the price — but not enough. Not enough.”
Coming from a guy who freely admits his new job means, “I’m a salesman,” this should probably be categorized as truth in advertising. Or maybe just being real. A few hours later, at a dinner for several hundred donors held just a few steps from the practice field, Herman preaches a similar message, saying he’s running the “hardest training camp in college football,” because “in order to win championships you have to practice hard — and we embrace that culture.”

Why don’t you tell us how you really feel, Houston head coach Tom Herman.
You have to understand one thing about Herman. He is going from one of the most loaded programs in the country at Ohio State to what is a bit of a rebuilding project at Houston. The new head coach of the Cougars brings high expectations after helping the Buckeyes grab the national championship, so he knows what kind of players he needs to win. If one quote from a camp scrimmage is any evidence, Herman does not have that kind of talent at wide receiver on the depth chart in his new football home at Houston.

Maybe that reads a little bit more harshly than it was intended, but it should certainly send a message to the entire receiving unit that whatever has been done so far is not good enough to meet Herman’s expectations.

Former Ohio State assistant Tom Herman is trying to replicate Meyer’s program as head coach of Houston
On a stifling Thursday morning early in training camp, running back Javin Webb stood before his teammates at the end of practice to take part in a ritual that has become a familiar sight for Ohio State fans.
In recognition of his standout performances since camp opened, Webb’s coaches removed a thick dark stripe from the middle of his helmet, signaling that he was now considered an official member of his new team.
To those who follow the Buckeyes, this may not sound like a noteworthy development. Ever since Urban Meyer arrived in Columbus in 2012, newcomers to the program have had to go through this same rite of passage.
But in this instance, there was one important difference: Webb doesn’t actually play for Ohio State. He wasn’t in Columbus and the coach performing the ceremony wasn’t Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to the national championship last season. It was Tom Herman, a former Ohio State assistant, and now head coach at the University of Houston.
“People can say that I’m just copying Urban Meyer,” Herman said. “You’re damn right I’m copying Urban Meyer!”
