So.. I guess the biggest question is this...

ESPN Reporter: So Erik, how does it feel to be the latest national laughing stock over some weed?
Haw: uh............
ESPN Reporter: You heard it here first guys, Erik haws says that he enjoys smoking weed all day long.
Haw: uh.... that's not what I....
ESPN Reporter: Oh my gentelman, did you hear that? He said Skeete sold it to him!
Haw: Wait a min....
ESPN Reporter: Erik just touched my ass, are you high right now Erik?

There is no excuse for this at all...

Yes they are 18-22 year old athletes, but being on a scholarship to play football for Ohio State brings on bigger responsibilities than what most 18-22 year olds have.

It's not a hard concept: DON"T DO STUPID SHIT!

Not only did Haw witness a teammate suspended last week for drug related problems, but hasn't he learned from other schools like Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, USC etc.? These schools have had kids in trouble from academics, to on campus fights, all the way to serving a 45 day jail sentence, shouldn't what is going on at other major football programs have any influence on what to and not to do and how to conduct yourself as a student athlete?

The biggest question in my mind is what happens now at the running back position, we are already thin, now you take Haw away for probably a minimum of two games or more and where does the staff turn to?

Pittman was the starter after the spring, but Haw was going to get some carries, I think this probably opened the door for Wells to get some time or maybe Anderson.

By Steve Helwagen Managing Editor
Date: May 19, 2005

OSU redshirt freshman tailback Erik Haw was cited by University Police Wednesday for possession of marijuana. His arrest comes on the heels of Jonathan Skeete's arrest a week earlier for drug trafficking. OSU coach Jim Tressel has issued a statement on what is at least the 16th brush with the law by one of his players since his arrival in January 2001.

As spring football ended, Ohio State redshirt freshman tailback Erik Haw said he understood the responsibility he and sophomore Antonio Pittman had as the only returning scholarship tailbacks on the team.

"It is a sense of urgency that you have to get the job done," he said at that time. "You feel like you have the world on your shoulders. But we're running backs. That's what we have to do."

Haw apparently did not take that lesson to heart, though. According to a university release, he was cited by OSU police for possession of marijuana Wednesday evening.

OSU coach Jim Tressel issued the following statement today:

"I am disappointed to hear about the situation with Erik," said Tressel, who currently is attending Big Ten meetings in Chicago. "As soon as I get back to town and learn all the details, we will deal with it in an appropriate manner.

"Anytime one of our student-athletes does something that is inappropriate, it is very discouraging."

In accordance with the athletics department's substance abuse policy, Haw will be required to enter a management and education training program and will undergo frequent evaluation, monitoring and testing by the department's management team.

Haw had 86 yards and a touchdown in the spring-ending Scarlet and Gray Game April 23. He figured to battle Pittman for the starting job in fall camp.

OSU also has one incoming freshman, Maurice Wells, ticketed at the tailback spot.

Haw's arrest comes on the heels of kicker Jonathan Skeete's arrest last week for distribution of marijuana.

This marks at least the 16th incident involving 17 players that Ohio State football players have had with the law since Tressel was hired in January 2001.

oh my gawd

i know i will come off sounding like an old stick in the mud but this latest fiasco is just a microcosm of whats wrong with society and kids today. the next thing you know haw will come out with some excuse blaming the guy who sold him the weed or some other lame excuse that everybody uses for doing something they know they shouldnt. weed may not be any worse for you than alchohol but it is ILLEGAL at the moment. wake up and take resposibility for your actions and stop making excuses for poor lack of judgement. tressel needs to call for an emergency players only meeting NOW and lay down the law once and for all before he becomes the next cooper ( is it too late?). no more excuses, no more second chances (3 strikes and you are out just sends the message its ok to break the law twice just dont get caught the third time....lame) and no exceptions. the next player caught breaking the rules be it dwi, weed, gambling, ncaa violations, arrested for fighting etc is off the team...no ifs ands or butts. put a stop to this shit now before we become the criami/criminoles of the north. i managed to make it through college and life without once ever being in front of a judge, its not really that hard.

don't matter how old he is, he is an adult. there are no excuses for this type of foolishness. i find myself leaning towards the desire of him being kicked off the team. though im not sure if i feel that way because i think its fair and the right thing to do or if im just getting so frustrated with this bs.

maybe tress should do the "10 dollar test". have the local pd bring in a dime bag and drop it in the locker room where it will be reletively easily seen. send the guys through one by one and see who takes the bait. its not entrapment because your not busting anyone. but you would get an idea of who the problem children are right fast.

wasn't he a Cooper recruit?

Aren't you a goat-fucking illegal immigrant? Oops, same thing. Have some more reds, fuckface...

these words sound dumber and dumber with each passing embarrassment

Yeah, you know what rag-head? You're completely right. Tressel is a total fucking waste and has brought nothing but embarrassment to our program. Let's fire him now and see if Cooper will be willing to come back. Then we can enjoy the pleasures of never winning a national title, never beating Michigan, and never winning a bowl game.
