Free 247 - Ohio's doors won't be open for long

Are doors opening for other schools to come into Ohio and win recruiting battles with Ohio State?

Just temporarily.

With the NCAA cloud covering the Ohio State football program, the Buckeyes have had a couple hiccups - several top in-state prospects in the class of 2012 appear to be heading to other schools.

However, things should be sunny again by the time the class of 2013 begins making moves.

Ohio State is set to go in front of the NCAA on Aug. 12. Any resulting sanctions would be expected about two months after the appearance. The Buckeyes administration has already administered self-imposed penalties by putting the program on two years' probation and vacating all 12 wins from the 2010 season. Whatever the penalties, it shouldn't threaten OSU's recruiting in the junior class and beyond.

The top junior prospect in the state, Dayton Trotwood-Madison defensive back Cameron Burrows, hasn't been shy about naming Ohio State his leader. He also has offers from Cincinnati, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and UCLA. He was back in Columbus for a visit on Tuesday.

Pushing Burrows for the No. 1 spot in the state will be Middletown athlete Jalin Marshall. He is also very high on his offer from the Buckeyes. Illinois, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are a few of the other programs that have already extended a scholarship.

"We were just talking about that yesterday," Marshall's father, Richard, said. "I read yesterday some of the things they were doing, and in two years it should all be getting back to normal when he's getting ready to go. (Jalin) really minimized that whole situation. He was not affected by that at all. It's so early, you never know what's going to happen two years from now. He didn't care and said it wouldn't affect his decision."

It is scary to think of the talent Meyer could bring in next year. Imagine a class that looked like this...

Jalin Marshall
Jaylon Smith
Kenny Bigelow
Cameron Burrows
Robert Foster
James Quick
Derrick Green
Malik Zaire
Evan Lisle
Eli Woodard
TaShawn Bower
Lovell Peterson
Billy Price

and finish with a couple more prospects in the group of Courtney Love, Alex Gall, Tim Kimbrough, Kyle Meadow, Jonathan Allen, Donovan Munger, etc....

The scariest part of all these names I have listed is that not one of them is located south of Kentucky! There are still some SEC country players in the 2013 class that are going to want to check out Meyer's new program. I truly believe Meyer's first full recruiting class that he is in charge of getting will be one of the best to ever step foot on Ohio State's campus.

I like that you included James Quick! He his close to where I am and the kid is a STUD! Don't forget his teammate Jason Hatcher though!

Funny thing is, most of the guys listed are in state guys. With urban Meyer, our roster is gonna have a number of more Florida guys and southern players in general. Not to mention top kids nationally. Our roster will have top players from all over in a few years. Just like when Meyer was at uf, and brought in top players from NJ, pa, CA and TX. We're going to be on the shortlist for top players throughout the nation on a regular basis

Looking at the 2013 scholarship offers thread, I see no OL there. We are thin on OL. OL is a position of need next year. I know there's still a lot of time, but I'd like to see some OL offers go out soon.

Dont worry, you wont see OL recruiting be ignored anymore. Meyer is very busy right now trying to work on the '12 class with the limited time he has. Come February, Meyer will offer alot of '13 lineman. Im sure he wants our new OL coach to have a say in who gets offered...

Wondering if anyone has some answers to any of these questions.

1. Hearing on other Forums about the possibility of Southward reopening his recruiting???? Floridas way of trying to get back at us for UFM? As well as one other unnamed at this time WR.

2. Hearing there are 2 relatively large names in the Race for the Urban that we will not be seeing in columbus on the recruiting trail but didnt get to read whom they were.

3. Im assuming Mikey V is staying on board seeing how he has been involved with every signing and in home meeting as well as the Spence trip. Oh yeah and the fact that Perkins want to meet with him.

4. And isnt Diggs scheduled to come into town this weekend or is it in Jan?

1. Not really sure about Southward, if he is, Urban probably won't like it.

2. There have been rumors going around that Jones and Poggi won't visit.

3. I would say Vrabel is on the staff going forward.

4. It's been speculated that he wants to visit but I don't think anything is set up yet.

I like Mathie, Lisle and Peterson in-state. Peterson is the only sure-fire OSU offer in my book...the others are probably camp guys but all look like D1 recruits.

Out of state I like Patrick Kugler from Pennsylvania, Jake Raulerson from Texas and Logan Tuley-Tillman and Kyle Bosch from Illinois.
