tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I've got them at 24 with my list, provided they land another BIG. Bell would make 25. Is it possible? Yes. Last I remember seeing there are 14 outgoing seniors on a roster of 76 (somebody can probably correct me on that if I'm wrong). That gives them 20 spots to start with, before any outgoing third years or guys who just don't return to the program for whatever reason.

Alright, I am brushing off the cobwebs and actually starting to do the math. 20 spots, before Hankins, Roby, or Hyde?

The dispatch says 21 or 22, which I guess means 21 if one declares early for the NFL, 22 if two do????

With the commitment today from Munger, a defensive lineman from Shaker Heights, Ohio, along with the one from Conley of Massillon, Ohio, on Friday, Ohio State?s 2013 class stands at 19.
The class is ranked No..4 in the country, according to the 247sports.com tote board, behind Southern California, Alabama and Florida, and just ahead of Notre Dame and Michigan. ....
But the OSU class is still lacking a true linebacker. Coach Urban Meyer indicated a couple of weeks ago it was vital to land at least two before the class tops out at 21 or 22 players.
Evidently, tOSU can take 1 for sure, and maybe 2 or 3????

It seems there is a short squeeze? Mitchell gets in for sure. Then maybe Trey? Dawson would have to get in if he wants.

Gibson, Quick, Corn, and Bell might be left high and dry if they want in?

If I were these guys, I would flinch. I think the heat is very real.

It's 20 spots as things stand. I'm sure the coaches know which of the juniors are definitely going to leave early for the NFL and probably have a feel on which underclassmen might transfer because of playing time issues. 24 is definitely a strong possibility.

We might just hit 25 in this class, but 24 seems to be the number thrown out there by the "experts"

Don't take recruiting info from the Dispatch....

Urb will sign no less than 23 in this class, but I wouldn't be shocked to see 25...

Just for fun, my latest guess:

QB: JT Barrett

RB: Ezekiel Elliott

ATH: Jalin Marshall

WR: Taivon Jacobs

WR: Shelton Gibson

WR: Cornelius Elder/Ryan Timmons
/James Quick

TE: Marcus Baugh

OT: Evan Lisle

OT/OG: Tim Gardner

OG: Billy Price/Donovan Munger

DT: Donovan Munger/ Billy Price

DT: Michael Hill

DE/DT: Joey Bosa

DE/DT: Tracy Sprinkle

DE/LB: Tyquan Lewis

LB: Mike Mitchell

LB: Trey Johnson

S/LB: Darron Lee

S: Jayme Thompson

S: Chris Worley/Vonn Bell/Korrin Wiggins

CB/S: Cameron Burrows

CB: Eli Woodard

CB/WR: Gareon Conley

P: Johnny Townsend

That puts the class at 24 with maybe an OT (Kenny Lacy?) for 25... or swap out Elder/Timmons/Quick for the extra OT if the staff feels comfortable with Conley on that side of the ball and there is only room for 24.

If the staff doesn't nab another OT maybe they feel comfortable with Gardner on the edge given how much progress he has made in the last year? That would open up a spot for an extra player at S or WR.

With another OT in 2013 or not, I am looking for a monster hall of OTs in 2014.

Nice list. I have my fingers crossed that you're wrong and Quick ends up a Buck. Seems like Worley will end up in the class too, and Elder seems like a strong possibility, so this should be interesting.

I think we should be really satisfied regardless.

I forgot about Worley and Elder.

I would put Worley in as an alternate with Bell/Wiggins and probably the favorite of the three to be in the class.

I would put Elder and Quick as alternates with Timmons with Elder being higher up on the wish list and Timmons being the backup plan. I think Quick is #1 on the wishlist but #3 on the likely list- anything could happen though.

Any of them could be the 25th as well if no surprise tackle shows up... if there is room for 25 in the first place.

Agree, the class is VERY versatile and filled with studs and it's hard to complain but w/out at least one marquee WR, preferably 2 it will be hard not to be dissapointed a little bit. We need 2 stud LBs too but I have to think we land AT LEAST one. WR on the other hand is not as clear, and we need them almost as much. We have to land at least one elite talent at wide out.

I don't really see ANY problems with any of the iterations above. All look like good kids and great players. Enough versatility in the players that several can switch sides of the ball and not miss a beat. Still need the two LB's to fit in the obvious holes, but there's enough in the current pipeline to fill the needs/holes.

Is it my imagination, or is recruiting under Urb much more of a guessing game (for we faithful followers) than it ever was with Tress, Coop, and Earl? Haven't seen the BP recruiting page (plus updates), and kinda think that when we zig, Urb zags, and the OSU 'war room' is off limits to more folk than usual......dunno, but it certainly makes me log on more times per day, as there's always seems like something new has hit the wires.....

I think Urban has the guys on a different type of recruiting philosophy than JT. But never discount the fact that all sites have 'friends' on the inside no matter the program. It could be that with the changeover in coaches and other personnel some sites don't have the 'in' yet. Of course, when they do they'll charge you for it... but I digress.

I think it's just extremely aggressive recruiting and at times they are on a first come first served basis.

JMHO.

In the days of Earl recruiting news consisted of a list of new commitments in the paper at the end of the year.

Talk on some other sites(11w etc.) that Oregon committ Dontre Wilson is still being pursued hard and may actually be in play. Interesting. I find it hard to believe that we won't have at least one out of left field surprise over the next few months.

It'd be nice if Derrick Green was back in play.

I'd rather have Dontre Wilson than Derrick Green. JMO. He has a skill set that isn't currently on the roster at tailback with true breakaway speed. Derrick will be a fantastic player in his own right but I think he's comparable to some of the guys we have waiting in the wings (Dunn, Smith, Ball).

The purported "dearth" of skill players that we have been bemoaning has been fixed and then some in this class. Jalin Marshall, Ezekiel Elliott, and Taivon Jacobs are all incredible athletes. If you can add in one or two out of Dontre Wilson, James Quick, Shelton Gibson, Corey Smith, and Cornelius Elder...
