tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I see Gibson, Burrell, and Gallimore in this class as well (confidence in descending order), but I think Roundtree is still a lean to UGA (we're charging though), and Harris is going to be really hard to pull away from UK. With Urban, there are definitely names out there that have not even once popped up on this message board or anywhere else. It may not be a top 3 class, but we're looking at finishing in the 5-10 range.

Not that the rankings means much, but as long as they are consistently bringing in top-tier talent, OSU will always be ranked among the top teams in the nation as far as recruiting goes (especially keeping the top talent from Ohio in-state). Recruiting is a numbers game as well as talent game.

I would love for them to pull top 5 ranked kids at their positions at all positions but even those 3* and 4* kids can be developed and sometimes without as much baggage attached when they get here. That being said, I would love for them to land a couple of big, talented, highly-ranked road graders on the line with the last 5-6 spots.

As far as rankings are concerned, as it stands now, OSU would have to land just about everyone on that wish list to be around "top 5 class" conversation. I think a class ranking of 8-12 is more realistic with the amount of 3*'s that have already made verbal commitments. Top-tier talent is still out there that has yet to commit but has no or little interest in OSU that will end up at other schools. Should be another solid class.

How many more spots do we have open? Im just wondering if they will have room for Burrell, Harris and Roundtree. If not do they make room?

I did a scrub on the numbers and I have the current number at 13 + 3 (back to the 85 scholarship from 82) = 16. With that said, Braxton Miller's and Noah Spence's status is TBD. IF they do not return that makes 18. There is a minimum of 4 Red-Shirt Seniors-To-Be that MAY not have that scholarship renewed so that would make it 22. Throw in transfers (2) and I see 24 scholarships available

I have a feeling that Urban will really clean house to get rid of some of the dead wood on the roster. 2015 is setting up nicely for a national championship run, especially if Spence returns (Braxton almost certainly will), and I'd rather take my chances with impact freshmen than nonproductive upper classmen.

Braxton has said he will. UFM expects him back. Why the 'almost' still?

I think the "almost" is in regards to the health of his shoulder. Sure, publicly he is saying he will be coming back, and most people truly believe he wants to and will, but will he be able to come back 100% after his 2nd surgery in 6 months remains to be seen. He may never be the same again.

I've got us with 17 open spots counting a spot for Miller and Spence.

QB- Miller, Barrett, Jones, Collier- 4
RB- Ball, Dunn, Elliott, Samuel- 4
WR- Smith, Thomas, Wilson, Brown, Campbell, Clark, Dixon, Marshall, McLaurin- 9
TE- Vannett, Baugh- 2
OL- Boren, Decker, Farris, Underwood, Dodson, Elflein, Jones, Jones, Knox, Lisle, Price, Taylor, Trout- 13
DT- Carter, Schutt, Washington, Hill, Munger, Sprinkle, Thompson- 7
DE- Spence, Bosa, Holmes, Lewis, Slade- 5
LB- Bogard, Perry, Williams, Johnson, Berger, Booker, Hubbard, Lee, McMillan, Worley- 10
CB- Reeves, Apple, Conley, Lattimore, Webb- 5
S- Tanner, Burrows, Bell, Powell, Hooker, Smith- 6
ST- Haynes, Johnston, Nuernberger- 3

Total- 68

85-68= 17

This assumes a spot for Spence, and that Greene is not on scholarship.

There are 7 players that will be 5th year players- Miller, Vannett, Farris, Underwood, Carter, Tanner, Haynes.

We have 20 commits, so right now we are 3 over unless I'm wrong.

Not expecting Davis' commitment to stick, saw a rumor that Liam McCullough might take a gray shirt, and I bet that we have a couple of players who either transfer or are kindly asked to not return. Either way, I bet we end up with about 23-24 in this class and let the numbers get worked out later. Such a departure from the Tressel mentality.

On OSU's end, it would make sense if McCullough took a gray shirt for scholarship limit reasons. However, with Haynes being a 5th year SR next year when McCullough would take his gray shirt, that would mean McCullough wouldn't redshirt the following year. He'd gray shirt during Haynes' SR year, then be a 4-year stater. Basically a red shirt without the scholarship hit the first year.

Yes a significant departure for Tressel in terms of attrition.
