tOSU Recruiting Discussion

If my memory and understanding correct, even after the 2015 class, we will still be down 3 players.

This year we are still down 6. That is a lot of depth we are missing. But you never really hear Urban whine about it, so I will whine for him.

Imagine if we had 6 extra players? 3 more DL and 3 more OL.

On top of that, I suspect we have had an above average number of injuries.

Okay, while on a roll, imagine if we were oversigning and had 9 players on top of 6.

Rivals free article by Helmholt on the top Midwest targets uncommitted. Lists us as the darkhorse for Beckner (Mizzou the favorite but concedes nobody knows much on him since he waited until now to start his recruitment) and the favorite for Gallimore.

The thought of adding Gallimore AND Beckner is downright ridiculous. The odds of landing both is remote but man would that be sick! I do think we will land one of them however.

I have been on record saying I want to keep loading up on the O Line but I will say this. Now that we have Hefty Lefty it changes things a little bit. I assume Bowen puts us at 4. If I had a choice of a 5th O line guy or adding 2 studs on the D Line it would be a tough call. For instance, let's say you have Gallimore and you can add one of Richmond or Beckner.......

Point is, there is no way we reach on the 5th O lineman.

I wouldn't be suprised to see 2 DT's out of these last few recruits our name is in the hat for 4 Elite DT's down the stretch. Briscoe looks like a 4 star all the way to me and shows great open field speed on his RB highlights. I think the staff is struggling how to decide to use these last few spots because of Michigan's recruits jumping ship late in the process, the depth not being there at DT and Harris still being up in the air. A lot of options with few spots remaining.

The great thing about our staff is that we seem to always have great backup plans in place in case we miss our primary target. Miss on Harris, Weber is there to possibly get. Miss Gallimore and possible Williams, miss Cager and/or Taylor and get Briscoe and/or Cole. And I'm not even mentioning the names that seem to be pulled out of hats around January every year who find their ways into classes.

Sobering: Bob Hunter says tOSU is already 3 over limit, but says Harris (RB) and Sweat (DE) would get in if they wanted, while speculating that Bowen (OT) and Briscoe (DB) have been told to wait.

Well count on Davis decommitting and some attrition...that is always in the cards and the coaches know that better than us. Even still, I would guess we have 3-4 spots left at the most, with those spots ideally going OT, DT, DB, and RB.

Yeah but we weren't stingy enough early on and it may have us turning away big name guys.

I don't know what big names we've had to turn away. Off the top of my head, Torrance Gibson, Matt burrell, jashon Cornell, Justin Hilliard, nick conner, Kevin feder, Jerome baker, EGW, dremont jones, Jamel dean, and a long list of underrated prospects. I'm ecstatic over how this class is turning and its peaking at the same time the football team is. Not sure what u meant in your statement

Might have to turn down some bigger names at the end of the day (Taylor, Richmond/Prince, etc.) but we have not yet. And there is always a chance the staff pulls a Taivon Jacobs and makes room by essentially letting a commit know there won't be a LOI for them to sign come February. Not ideal but it happens occasionally.
