tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I don't know what big names we've had to turn away. Off the top of my head, Torrance Gibson, Matt burrell, jashon Cornell, Justin Hilliard, nick conner, Kevin feder, Jerome baker, EGW, dremont jones, Jamel dean, and a long list of underrated prospects. I'm ecstatic over how this class is turning and its peaking at the same time the football team is. Not sure what u meant in your statement
Yeah I'm not talking about any of the guys you mentioned we've done great at LB and QB And above average at OL. Our class is already over numbers and there are many elite recruits still out there decommitted or still high on our board. It comes down to if we reached for a few guys with mediocre talent and you have to turn away guys like Richmond, Harris, Beckner, Cole Cager, McLean, Wilkins or Weber. It's tough because recruiting is such a fluid situation and cole weber, taylor and mclean all come back onto the board all of a sudden late in the recruiting process.

If they're being "turned away" as you guys put it, what does that say about the guys already in their spot?

Richmond, Weber, & Cole are currently committed elsewhere.

Harris, Beckner, & Cager are in if they want.

McLean never even said he was considering or being considered by OSU since decommitting.

No one knows anything about Wilkins.

Agree. ^^^

@buckeye4ever21 None ofthe guys you've mentioned would be turned away, and a number of them are very up in the air with where they want to go. And I don't see us reaching on anyone. If anything many are underrated(I.e. green, norwood and burrow). If we don't get Harris we'll have room for Weber, if we don't get Richmond we should be happy with a 6'9' behemoth in Feder, if we don't get Beckner than Cornell is no drop off, no Cager than Alexander and/or Stump would easily suffice. Chill out and enjoy the ride. We could easily finish with Cole, Gallimore, Briscoe, Bowen and Weber and have a tremendous class and by far best in conference

There are guys turned away every year and there are multiple reasons. Malik Jefferson was turned away as soon as Baker was flipped. Harris, Beckner, Cager aren't in if there is no room left. Position needs fall into place here as well. If we need DTs desperately then we may need to take 2. Hunter's article already talks about recruits being told to wait because we are too full.

Exactly. I am MORE than fine taking the class of Hilliard, Baker, and Connor at LB to the exclusion of others, even if you call it "turning away"...unless Luke Kuechly is deemed eligible to play for us next season, I am more than fine with "turning away" the likes of Jefferson or whoever else might think they want the spot based on who we have. The only positions I feel that way about right now are QB and LB. Every other position is subject to opinion and it will be fun to see how we fill the remaining spots.

Speculation is what we fans love (myself included), so I will assume 4 spots and my realistic wishlist is: Harris, Gallimore, Richmond, and Garrett Taylor.

Mediocre is quite a stretch.

So you're saying UFM can't manage his recruiting properly?

The coaching staff and all the recruiting experts out there don't know anymore than we do about how a players career will turn out over the next 4 years. One player can turn a class. Troy Smith was the last guy in the 02 class but change him out with another player and we are a totally different team. Each spot is crucial in my opinion. The experts aren't aren't just throwing darts at a list of guys to determine if they are 3 or 4 stars, there is a basis for it based off of a lot of tangibles. I know Meyer will get the job done but I just don't want to leave a stud out there because we don't have room for him.

Malik was turned away because they have studs and aren't going to jeopardize them for a long shot.

Harris, Beckner and Cager have their spots If they want in. The guys who have to wait are Bowen, Briscoe, Taylor(?), etc

I think there's a precedent set here.

Still short on spots if Richmond, Harris, Gallimore, Beckner, Cager and Cole want to come aboard. Briscoe is a 4 star talent and Taylor is tough to turn away too. You could also change out webber for Harris and Wilkins and McLean for the other 2 spots. That's potentially 8 more spots that could end up in this class and we don't have 8 spots. Just saying that turning away 4 of those guys if there's not room wouldn't be maximizing the class. Just saying that I don't think the staff projected this much interest from so many good recruits this late in the process.

and there will be decommitments or non renewals to accommodate them. I don't like it but it is a business. And it will accomplish what you want regarding filler guys just in a backwards way.

You can exchange Weber and Harris. You would never add both, and definitely not 3 DTs, so your premise is way off. Cole is so awesome that he has been visiting terrible big ten schools. He has tapered off big time after a bad senior year. That doesn't mean he can't play but he isn't visiting powerhouses nor is he a top target of theirs.

If Gallimore, Harris, Cager, Beckner, Richmond want in, you take them. That won't happen so it won't be an issue of that many. 2-3 of them would be phenomenal and not probable.

The others are plan b guys that move up depending on who takes the other not yet open spots.
