tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Was Haskins commit to UM a "miss" for Ohio State ala Diggs, or did interest cool on Urban's end?

Disclaimer: Asking here b/c I'm interested in what's going on w/ QB recruiting more than Haskins specifically.
I think Haskins was passed on a while ago on the staff in favor of Guarantano and Wallace. The staff got a commitment from Wallace and JG committed to Tennessee. Wallace committed before Haskins, so he wasnt really a "miss". QB recruiting is essentially over for 2016. Wallace is an athletic QB that Beck can work with and groom and use his athleticism but allow him to grow more as a QB. He can ease into the role with our current depth.

From what I read on the interwebs, it was OSU cooling on Haskins. When it comes to Guarantano and Wallace, it was either JG as 1A and Wallace as 1B, or JG straight up 1 and Wallace 2. Either way, from what I saw elsewhere JG was technically their favorite, but still stoked to land Wallace.

Thanks.
So between JT, Gibson, Burrows, Wallace, and projecting Clark we're basically set for 2016 and not currently looking for more. That makes sense.
Glad he went to the good UM and stayed in-conference and close to home. Too bad about Guarantano though... would've liked to see him stay in NJ. Rutgers has grown on me with their epic trolling of Happy Valley, and they wear scarlet so they can't be too bad.

I'm glad Haskins stayed in state as well, Maryland is trying to keep their talent at home and he's a good start. Guarantano's father was coached by Butch Jones so UT had an in there. But OSU is in great shape at QB for the foreseeable future.

JG was option 1a and Wallace 1b. Things went started going south for JG and since Wallace wanted to commit and was graded barely below JG, the staff was more than happy to take Wallace. Personally, I had Haskins rated higher than Wallace and think he is the next JT Barrett with a slightly stronger arm. Objectively, there is a reason I am on a computer writing this and Urban is paid millions to actually make these decisions. In any event, Haskins would have been a Buckeye if we accepted his commitment but the staff preferred Wallace.

After the Mack commitment, it looks like we're headed for something like:

QB: Wallace
RB: Walker
H: Hill, McCall
Z: (Craig-Myers, Mitchell, Victor or Crowell)
Y:
Hawkins
X: Mack
TE: Hausmann, (Ferrell)
OL:
Jordan, Wohlabaugh, Gerald
DE: Hall, Cooper, (Bosa)
DT:
Barrow, (Gary, Jackson, Williams or Lawrence)
MLB:
Borland
SLB: (Hansford)
CB:
Felder, (Davis)
S: (Hamlin, Fuller)
P:
Chrisman

Probably the best recent list that I've seen. Very realistic class, and if all signed That would be a top 3 class and provide great depth while Also bringing in some guys that could challenge from day 1 for PT

would be ecstatic at anything that even closely resembles a close to this class as that.

What's the thinking for leaving Sammons off of the list?

His performances have been underwhelming at camps and he doesn't really have a position.

He might be great, but it seems unlikely Ohio State has room or need of a project right now.

They're more than set at DE, they have the ability to be picky at OT, and I honestly have no idea why some people are projecting him at DT, which is the one place Ohio State isnt crushing it at right now.

I'm not sure that sparty is taking him either.

Bump. Let's get some prediction updates people. It's the dog days of summer and this is serious therapy. So bring your A games and let's hear your latest thoughts. And if we can keep this going until early Sept that would be great. Thanks for your participation. Carry on.

Ok, I'll make an attempt. Were currently at 16 commits and I'm not sure how many more will fit, but I'm also banking on some schollies to the 2017 class.

TE L. Farrell
DE N. Bosa
DE(will eventually be DT)P. Sammons(or another OH DT)
S J. Fuller
S A. Pryts
CB D. Hamlin

I'm fine with only taking 1 WR in 2016 and taking more in 2017. Sammons is raw, but OSU seems like longshots for any of the higher ranked DTs who all seem to be staying south, and Gary seems headed to scUM.

I posit there is little interest in Sammons and vice versa.
