tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Stupid question time. If we don't have room for Bruce... Hardman? Is this kind of a plan-B... if all the DTs are off the board we snag another skill position guy?

Even more stupid question... since we know were going to be in a number crunch next year, why not bank it? Looks like there's a pretty big opportunity cost for not having enough 'ships for '17.

Hardman is a guy you probably don't say no to. Bruce was a guy they could afford to say no to. The big questions is what if Hamlin or Becker wants in? Do they simply have to tell King no? This should get pretty interesting down the stretch.

TE U? Where are we planning on putting all of these TE's now?

Don't think I've ever seen this many TE's on a Buckeye roster. I know I haven't

You take a good preferred walk-on from X like Brock, but the amount of TE's taken in 2016 is the only beef I have really seen on this class (other than not getting another DT...or it appears we won't anyways). Considering we don't utilize the TE really at all other than to block, I think sticking with Hausmann and Farrell would have been sufficient. However, Hawkins is a great athlete and might be split out wide some and can even get moved to DE. All that being said, I really hope we start utilizing the TE position more because Hausmann could be a huge weapon for us and is the best receiving TE we have brought in. I think both Heuerman and Vannett were vastly under-utilized (Vannett has been tearing it up at the Senior Bowl and Jeff went pretty high to Denver).

I always hear the talk that we never utilize the TE. But is it that we underutilize TEs or do our QBs just not look towards them much in the passing game?

Maybe both but moreso the offensive game plan imo. If you want to involve the TE position, you scheme for it (see Notre Dame, they always utilize the TE). Plus when you have coaches talking about our TEs playing great and they weren't even targeted, it becomes clear that their role is primarily as a 6th OL. Don't get me wrong, I love that our TEs block well and we pride ourselves on that, I just think we have too much talent at TE to not involve them in the passing game. Especially Baugh, who came in as a glorified WR...very dangerous pass catcher and I love that he bulked up and can block now, but we have to get him the ball.

Aren't Alexander, Berry and Hawkins in the same glorified WR but TE role because of size?
