tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Credit to Urban Meyer. Despite the undeniable fact Ohio State will lose at least four games this season, the historic 2017 class continued its warpath to National Signing Day over the weekend.

High four-star DE Chase Young committed during Friday Night Lights. High four-star — I love that "high four-star" is a thing in recruiting now — CB Amir Riep committed 24 hours later.

At "least three more 5 stars", HOW SWEET IT IS!!!

Heck of a weekend. My prediction on how we close out:

QB: Tate Martell
QB: Danny Clark
RB: J.K. Dobbins
WR: Trevon Grimes
WR: Tyjon Lindsey
WR: Jaylen Harris (I don't see us getting DPJ and Harris has proven himself imo)
OL: Josh Myers
OL: Jake Moretti
OL: Wyatt Davis
DE: Chase Young
DT: Haskell Garrett
DT: Jerron Cage
LB: Atwuan Simmons
LB: Barron Browning
DB: Amir Riep
DB: Shaun Wade (he could defect but I feel better after his visit)
DB: Isaiah Pryor
DB: Marcus Williamson
DB: Jeffrey Okudah
ATH: Brendon White
K: Blake Haubeil

- That's 21 and a fantastic class. I think Akers stays south, Lamont Wade goes elsewhere, and DPJ stays home. Hope I am wrong on each one of those obviously but if they all wanted in it would be interesting. If I had to doubt myself on anyone I excluded, it would be L. Wade...we are right at the top with him and may lead...could see just one Wade in this class. At this point I've just got my feet up to enjoy the ride, we are getting a record class regardless.

I believe Haubeil will GS and count toward '18 numbers correct?

Would love either Akers or Tufele for that spot assuming we can sign 21.

Glad to see you think Harris could be in. Because of OH special powers and all.

Regardless, agreed. That's an absurdly stacked class.

I'm heading for a Ruxin-like episode on signing day.

I failed to address Tufele and Holmes. Seems like we're in really good shape for both and they're definitely "takes" in my books. Holmes might be the best in the country and even with the amount of talent we're in on, he's at the top of my DB board by a slight margin. And I would love to have a third DT in this class if it's the right guy...if there is any position to stock up on, DT is it right now. Wilson is a long shot but Tufele is really good and might be leaning our way. Not sure you could tell either one of them no.

Agreed. But our RB depth is pretty thin. So, despite my affection for Dobbins, you absolutely don't say no to Akers either. I just don't see 6 DBs in a tight class. Regardless of how good #6 is, so if the first 5 stick then.....

Steve Helwagen: Alex I was asked yesterday in my chat about my choices for the last for recruits I shared my list if you had to take four guys to complete this class or five who would they be?

Alex Gleitman: Tough call, but if I could pick five, with no restrictions, using realistic options, I probably go with RB Cam Akers, OL Trey Smith, DT Jay Tufele, LB Baron Browning, and DB Jeff Okudah. Crazy, but they COULD get all of those guys, even though I don’t think they do.

That's sick... to already have the class we do.. and odds-on to get these five... sick
