tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Can you really comment on any of them? It's not like you've ever hung out with any of them to know their personalities. Going off interviews and public personas is not enough to know their true character.

You're right. Seeing how they react to adversity in games, their interactions with each other, and their leadership styles with team mates is not a good way of determining how they deal with competition at all.

I don't think aggression has as much impact at the QB position than most any other spot.
Which is probably why JT and Cardale did so well while appearing to be cool calm and collected.
They don't physically have to push anyone around, make any tackles, or even keep pace with an opponent.

FWIW I used QB because the Urban quote was fairly specific to the QB position.

“I don’t go out and recruit a certain player,” Meyer says. “I recruit the best player, and competitive nature, his desire to win, is without question the most important thing. I used to be into, ‘Is he a three-quarter [throwing motion]? Does he have four fingers on the laces or five?’ I don’t care anymore.

“Will he choke you to win a checker game? If he does that, I’ll take him.”

Oh they'll all compete and put their foot on the pedal** ... I just don't get that "become violent over a board game" vibe from any of them except Braxton. I don't even get it from Meyer... after a big loss he eats pizza alone on the golf cart, and that's a perfectly rational response AFAIC (I mean, it's not like he's eating grass off the field).
I'm guessing Vrabel was the one that put a hole in the whiteboard.

**I can't really comment on Collier yet I guess?
Sounds accurate.

Any athlete that puts 100% effort in and pushes to compete fits the quote?
If that's how you read it, cool... I didn't interpret it that way I guess. Choking somebody over a board game just seemed very specific to me.
None of them lack anything in the effort department, and none of them shy away from competition (I remember JT vs. Cardale in a circle drill... JT really doesn't stand a chance there, but he never backed down).
And I assume that's what Urban is looking for... just not sure I agree with the way he worded it. I thought it was interesting that all 3 have a very different approach to how they go about it...

Sorry if this is all being contrarian / off-season... I didn't think that many people would get in a tissy over my interpretation.

I think any player playing for Urban Meyer's staff is a player willing to be ultra competitive or they wouldn't be Buckeyes. This last season alone showed how competitive they are in the face of national view that OSU was not being championship caliber, teams with little competitive nature's wouldn't have turned their seasons around after the VA Tech lose and dominated opposing teams. We'll be fine regardless of QB and everyone should obviously have full faith regardless of what they want to do over a board game

2017 RECRUITS ON THE CLOCK TONIGHT
Tonight at midnight, it's officially open season for the Buckeyes' coaching staff and their ability to talk to, recruit, and generally get to know the 2017 prospects they covet.

As it stands, the Buckeyes have the country's top-ranked 2017 class, with 10 commitments (nine of which are four-star prospects or better, only kicker Blake Haubeil is not), an impressive early haul considering how limited conversation and interaction has been to this point.

If you're a junior in high school and are reading this story, you'll know tonight if you're really being recruited by the teams and programs you thought you were. For the Buckeyes, tonight's the first real night where Twitter will show us the names of guys around the country that the Buckeyes are pursuing that maybe we weren't aware of. Should be a fun night and hey, it's always good to have a moniker for your recruiting class, right?

Ready, set, go!

I dislike that sending a ton of mail to recruits is a thing now. Whoever started it is obnoxious and that it apparently works is annoying.

Which school should I pick? Well, they only sent me 50 letters and I got 120 from someone else so that factors into my decision.

You know it was probably some coach from the SEC!

2017 DEFENSIVE BACK RECRUITING: MEYER'S BEST EVER?

63025_h_0.jpg,qitok=52c1loj7.pagespeed.ce.TCobNHQ1bd.jpg

The depth in the Ohio State secondary has been a concern this year; even with Damon Webb making his return. Couple that with things not going exactly as planned with the 2016 recruiting class and there may be just a tad bit of cause for concern.

Alas, the 2017 class is off to a tremendous start and the group of defensive backs could be one of the finest units that the Buckeyes have ever signed.

Ohio State's top-ranked 2017 class already features three defensive backs who are ranked in the nation's top 100. Shaun Wade is the third-ranked cornerback, Westerville's Marcus Williamson checks in at No. 6, and Isaiah Pryor is the nation's second-ranked safety. So who is the country's top-rated safety? Another player who recently named Ohio State as his favorite and has confirmed that he will be in town for the November 21st battle with the Spartans.

With LeCounte likely out of the picture barring something major at UGA, any chance we push hard for Paris Ford now that a likely DB spot has opened up?
