tOSU Recruiting Discussion

This 2017 class will be really special, not just for OSU but the class as a whole has a lot of talent. WR alone, OSU could have to pass on a number of very talented prospects. Losing Judson may not even matter much if we get guys like Grimes, Thomas and Peebles-Jones, Danny Clark has to be grinning ear to ear to be able to have such weapons if he becomes the starter

I've seen a lot of hype recently about how this 2017 class should be out of this world. I understand the whole concept of roster management via transfers, medical hardships, etc, but with only 5-6 seniors on the team next year and 10 commits already, how is this class going to get much larger than it already is?

There will have to be a lot of backups helped out the door. They're probably using 2-3 valid medicals to stockpile the 4-5 more verbals they want in this class.

4 NFL departures next January is a safe bet. That gets them to 85 with the current verbals.

So any additional verbals will require attrition. 2-3 dismissals (urban will be quite strict with discipline issues this year ), 2-3 transfers, 1-2 medicals gets you to up to a class size of 15-18. Add in 2-4 more non renewals and you get 17 to 22 spots.

The next class should be stellar. It's probably not going to be as big.

The only safe bet I see for an early departure for the NFL is McMillan. Maybe one of the better DL (Hubbard, Lewis) may bail if they have a great season.

I was thinking of how good this WR class alone could be, just based off of the offer list: Keyshawn Johnson Jr
Jeff Thomas
James Robinson
Donovan Peoples-Jones
Trevon Grimes
Emmanuel Greene:
Tahj Capehart
Jerry Jeudy
Jaylen Harris
Tyjon Lindsey
And to think Lynn Bowden and Jigg Richardson could also be offered. If you just took 3 of People's Jones, Grimes and KJjr/Harris you have an amazing class. Any combination of 3 on this list would be sick! Coach Smith has to be salivating over this. Especially if we can add Sam Bruce to Victor and Mack in 2016

My best guess to date for the '16/'17 WR classes combined:
Mack
Victor
Bruce
Grimes
Peoples-Jones
Harris
That would be an amazing WR corp. but imagine if were wrong and we get Grimes, Thomas and Greene, or Lindsey, Peoples-Jones and KJjr!? None are bad scenarios. And what if Richardson and Bowden blow up, do we also go after them? These are some truly good problems to have!

With a clearer picture of what 2016 will look like, my projected 2017 class (on the assumption of 22 scholarships..default number I guess because I have no idea what the scholarship situation is and there are too many great players that want in...someone let me know if that is too high):

QB: Danny Clark (still excited on Clark and the staff is too I think, although it seems they are taking a peak at other QBs)
RB:
Todd Sibley (grinder...will be the thunder, I think we get a lightning to go with him)
RB: Trey Sermon (if he is our top remaining target, I think we get him)
WR: Trevon Grimes (might as well write his name in red, top WR in the country and will be a Buckeye)

WR: Jaylen Harris (staff loves him and he will be in sooner rather than later)
WR: Tyjon Lindsey (probably a pipe dream but with two taller pure WRs above pretty much in, we need a slot guy and Lindsey is the best in the country imo...he would fit perfectly here...however, I could easily see any of Jeff Thomas, Emmanuel Green, Peoples-Jones or Johnson Jr. here...if we have enough guys wanting in, we might take 4 at this position and after passing on Bruce, I think we might be planning for that number in 2017...)
TE: Matt Dotson (pretty much in, not sure his timeline though)
OL: Josh Myers (future first-rounder LT...nuff said)
OL:
Jake Moretti (massive potential, can play guard or tackle imo)
OL: Micah Clark (we are in good shape and Schiano is only going to help...I could see Isiah Wilson and I think he is priority A, but Clark is take if he wants in)
DE: Corey Malone-Hatcher (I think the early relationship wins out here..we will work Kaindoh really hard but we have a little ground to make up on with PSU, certainly not insurmountable though...I really like Vilain, Paschal and Young, so I am thinking we might take two here if it is the right two)
DT:
Jerron Cage (great start at the position for '17)
DT: Darnell Ewell (I would be shocked not to see him end up in S&G...monster DT that is a priority, especially with only presumably landing one in '16...keep 'em coming Lake Taylor)
DT: Camaron Spence (I LOVE Spence and think he is just what we need for our future 1-tech...I could also see Hansard here and really like him as well, so I think you could put either here...either way, we take three at DT with so much talent on deck, thus me only putting one DE on the list)
LB:
Brendon White (huge potential here, love the early commit)
LB: Santino Marchiol (great LB and I think we are in great shape here, especially after the IMG transfer...I think we only take two here with land Keandre Jones in '16 and Pryor potentially being a LB down the road)
DB:
Marcus Williamson (big time stud, will be a lockdown corner)
DB:
Isiah Pryor (future hammer at safety and I don't see him ending up at LB...VERY solid commit and will help us recruit at IMG)
DB:
Shaun Wade (really hope this sticks but it is going to be a battle to keep him...personally, I don't think it sticks but I hope I am wrong, absolutely elite corner)
DB: Lamont Wade (I have always loved where we stood with Lamont and I do think he is the top DB in the country...however, the '16 DBs plus Ford heading to Pitt are going to be a factor imo...however, I think his heart is at OSU and so is his father's...really seems like a great kid from a great family on top of all the talent)
DB: Jeffrey Okudah (if Lamont Wade is not the best DB in the country, then Okudah is imo...we are in GREAT position here and I think Schiano will rock this one out and land Jeffrey...if that DB class goes down, it would be the best I have ever seen and I don't just mean at OSU...even without Shaun Wade, lord forbid, it would be the best I have seen here and that includes the '13 class that included Bell, Apple and Conley)
K:
Blake Haubeil

- Considering our '16 class is already filthy, I would not mind banking a 'ship or two for 2017 with the way it is looking now. I had to really make some tough theoretical cuts to get down to 22 total, which I am not even sure we will have. I do think we could make it with only 1 LB and certainly do not need another RB. But it is unreal to think that we could follow up an incredible '16 class with what '17 is looking like.

That is a lot of talent and I think a pretty good list. I don't think we have 22 now, but we might be 2017 NSD, through attrition and whatnot. I think Hansford might commit, or want to commit on his visit, so I would have him in the class over Spence. Lindsay, as you say is a pipe dream, so I wouldn't put him in the class. I think we can have Keyshawn Jr. or Greene if we want either of them, so we have plenty of good options as a 3rd wideout. I am also not sure Dotson is going to be in the class. I know we offered him early, but our offense doesn't really utilize the TE that much, and we already have so many TE's on the roster already. It just doesn't make sense to me to take a TE with limited numbers available.

I hear you on everything there. Hansard is high on us and you take his commitment right away if he wants to give it, but I still think he is leaning east right now (Rutgers or PSU)...I expect we take the lead with his visit, or at least make up that ground. Lindsey appears wide open, I just think it fits well. But if not, Keyshawn would be awesome. And agreed on Dotson...I like him, but we definitely do not need a TE for the '17 class. It just seems like we really want him here but I would rather give the spot to another WR, DE, LB or DB.

#OhioState just offered Kings 2017 OL Matt Sichterman (6-5, 265) during his visit today, per Kings coach Andy Olds @WCPO @kingsathletics

Per Mike Dyer

Edit per Mike Dyer

#Purdue offered Kings 2017 OL Matt Sichterman today, according to Kings coach Andy Olds. Ohio State did not offer today, Olds said.
