I used to own three chainsaws. An old McCullough, a Poulan wild thing and a kick ass Husky. The McCullough bit the dust and the wild thing was not big enough to cut the oak tree. The Husky is nice but is heavy. I have a yard the size of a football field that was lined with trees with some big beautiful oaks and maples. The big oak was 100 feet tall and about four feet wide at the base. I got firewood forever, the termites will get to the wood before I do. Remember, not only did I have to cut it up but I had to move all of it to the back yard and rake up all the small branches, leaves and sawdust. We actually "borrowed" a bulldozer to push all the stumps into the woods.

After three days of cutting trees in humid 90 degree weather with no power, water or A/C you slow down a little. It sucks to get old.

Greetings BP!

I finally got power back about 2 hours ago.

Rode the storm out in Baton Rouge (bad idea). Radio says worst hit Baton Rouge took since Betsy in '65. Left Baton Rouge the next morning for Gulf Shores (people in Alabama are even more delusional than ever).

Wasn't allowed back into the Parish until this past Friday. Huge mess! Gonna take a loong time to get this place looking normal again. My house made it through with only minor cosmetic damages.

Can't complain too much considering how lucky this area was. But I am happy as hell to be able to sleep in my house for the first time since Aug 28!!

drinking a glass right now!

Was drinking in celebration, but then kinda got depressed. here ain't shit in this house. ALL of my stuff (half my furniture, fridge, washer, dryer, 3 TV's and stereo) is at my sister's house. Can't move it after work, cause she still ain't got power yet, and I rarely get home before dark (especially now). That means I gotta watch this lil piss ant TV, and can't keep any real food here until Saturday (which means I ain't going to the game because I gotta move this shit back).
This was a poorly planned evacuation on my part.

Wait a minute, so you're saying you packed up all your stuff to escape Gustav and wound up taking it to a place that got hit harder and has been without electricity longer?

I live in a flood zone. Never had any water in this house, but since Jan '01 (when I moved in) we have fooded 3 times, Hurricane Lili in '02, Bill in '03, and Rita in '05. Plus twice before that in my lifetime, Andrew in '92 and Juan in '85. Came within an inch of getting water in the house for both Lili and Rita.

My sister's house is on considerably higher ground than I am, plus is 9ft off the gound where as my house is only 2.5 ft above the ground.

With the surge they predicted (that never came) I was looking at 6 feet of water inside my house, and none in her's. So I moved EVERYTHING.

Also as far as power goes, they fixed it backerds from what they normally do. Power is normally restored north heading south. Don't know why, but this time (1st I can ever remember) we got power back before the next 2 towns north of here.

With Ike on a safe path for us what does Josephine hold? Fall can't get here soon enough for me.

Josephine is gone.... not even a tropical depression anymore....

looks like Ike is headed right for the Texas/Mexico border.... looks to be another rough one, maybe a cat3 when it hits.

in college i had the oppurtunity to clean up after a storm (run excavator/dozer etc) my parents were footing a portion of my edu and pulled the plug on it. i was teasing you guys. though, i really am impressed with so many kids these days. ive honestly run into 20+ ohio college/high school kids who have spent time in the gulf coast for katrina/rita etc clean ups.

i am so glad you guys are all ok.
