Latest track has nudged to the east a bit.
With this one, I'll either take a direct hit, or it'll be just to the east of me.

This is better for me, but worse for Gatorubet. Hope you took care of whatever business you needed to, and headed out of town bro.
We may be rivals on the field, but we're all on the same side in this situation.
With the physical size of this storm, anyone on the MS or Bama coast may want to head inland as well.

You know, when your mayor says this,

The evacuation of New Orleans becomes mandatory at 8 a.m. today along the west bank of the Mississippi River and at noon on the east bank. Nagin called Gustav the "mother of all storms" and told residents to "get out of town. This is not the one to play with."
"For everyone thinking they can ride this storm out, I have news for you: That will be one of the biggest mistakes you can make in your life."
Nagin said those choosing to remain in their homes should have an ax to chop through their roof when the floodwaters rise.
and you still stay in your house, you don't deserve rescue after the fact and you sure as hell don't deserve federal assistance money either. Hurricane Kite surfing anyone? :shake:

Gustav tore UP Cuba. :(

HAVANA (AP) ? Cubans returned from shelters to find flooded homes and washed-out roads Sunday, but no deaths were reported after a monstrous Hurricane Gustav roared across the island and into the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico.
About 250,000 Cubans were evacuated before Gustav made landfall on Cuba's Isla de la Juventud, then again on the Cuban mainland in the region that produces much of the tobacco used to make the nation's famed cigars.
It was just short of top-scale Category 5 hurricane with screaming 140 mph (220 kph) winds as it moved across the island, toppling telephone poles and fruit trees, shattering windows and tearing off the tin roofs of homes.

A Cuban television reporter on the Isla de la Juventud said the storm had felt like "the blast wave from a bomb." "Buildings without windows, without doors," he said. "Few trees remain standing."

That isn't "just short"....that is 16 MPH difference between the two.....That said, had Gustav had another 6 to 12 hours over water, it would have gotten there.

Jim Cantore is a natural disaster magnet.

You seem to be in good sprits considering.

trying my best to keep my sanity.

I have done everything I could to protect my home.
And since I drove out Friday evening have been doing the best I can to brace myself mentally and emotionally to possibly be homeless by this time tomorrow.

Damn. I've never came close to that kind of experience. I really hope everything works out for all involved down there.

This is a 1st for me.
Hurricane Andrew made a direct hit, but was a little weaker than this one.
Plus it wasn't supposed to so we weren't waiting for it.
Katrina also "missed" us and was supposed to all along, so I never really thought about.
This one however is projected to be the one we've always feared. And we've know about it for 3 days now, so all I can do is think about it.
