Half of Kelly's fanfare is because he failed so miserably as a coach in previous years. ND should beat every team on this schedule, as his talent outclasses all but Usc and Ou and only the latter was an elite, efficient team.

I am fine with Meyer not winning it but Kelly did not do what Snyder has done for years.

I've been wondering this for a few months. Is recruiting for Ohio State easier or more difficult than recruiting for Florida? On one hand, it's always warm in Florida, but Ohio State has a lot more tradition than does Florida. Do they offset or is one better than the other? I am sure there are other considerations that influence the recruiting process that I haven't thought about. I wish one of the reporters would ask Urban this question come signing day.

    6-7 team...

Uh, we beat scUM. By the way, ND was squeaking out wins against Pitt (who get hammered at home by Youngstown State) in 3 OT, and BYU.

Pretty sure he knows that. His point was if we played them early in the year like ND did, he's not sure if we'd beat them. I'm not so sure either.

We handled Nebraska pretty well in mid-season. We had problems with Cal because we couldn't fucking tackle and with UAB because they played their game of the year (same with UCF). We also struggled with a [Mark May]ty Purdue team and a so-so Wisconsin team in late season but still beat Michigan.

Actually, while we were beating UAB, Michigan was doing everything they could to give Notre Dame the victory, and they still had issues with it.

You are completely missing the point on the Michigan game.

Besides, Ohio State is not the only school that has other schools play their games of the year against them.

Glad to see the tradition of "Pay it forward" continues at Ohio State.

So we beat someone even close to the caliber of Stanford? Oklahoma? Hell, even USC (arguable)? And yeah they had close games against inferior opponents, but so does every single team in a title run. Lets not pretend that half the teams that almost beat Ohio State in '02 were even worth mentioning, nor that luck and skill had to meet in pulling off that season at every turn.

Point is ND won those games, beat down a very good Oklahoma team on the road, beat USC convincingly, and beat Michigan State on the road 20-3 while we beat them by 1. Plus they blew out Navy and Miami Fl., who weren't total scrub teams (better than any of the non-conference schedule opponents we played).

I am not pretending they are on another level than OSU because I think we could take them. Nor am I advocating that what Kelly did is demonstrably superior to what UFM did. I am just saying the level to which ND hatred on this board blinds most to reality is comical. Either coach has a good argument for winning the award. We're talking about an ND program that has struggled greatly in recent decades and a coach that restored the program in his 2nd year. Why is it so hard to admit that what both UFM and Brian Kelly did this season was remarkable and either coach deserved the award?

Couldn't agree more with this. Same thing happens when discussing anything Michigan related.
