Hurricane Isaac postpones game

Thursday's scheduled opener between Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech has been postponed until Oct. 13 because of Hurricane Isaac.
Both schools were scheduled to have a bye that week.

The game was scheduled for Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. Louisiana Tech athletic director Bruce Van de Velde says university officials, who announced the postponement on Tuesday, are concerned about the safety of the athletes and fans, and want to be conscientious of the effect the storm could have on residents throughout the region.

Officials say the kickoff time will be determined at a later date. Tickets and parking permits already purchased will be honored, but there will be no refunds.

Tech now opens Sept. 8 at Houston, while A&M opens Sept. 8 at home against No. 23 Florida.

It is the first postponement in the wake of Hurricane Isaac, which was poised to hit the Southeastern coastline on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Several other games could be impacted. Tulane, which plays at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, is scheduled to open its season on Saturday. Rutgers officials said there is no update on whether the game will be played and will know more on Wednesday.
Tulane went to Birmingham, Ala., to practice at Samford University on Tuesday.
