WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

Well they already know who won. Why invite the other two? It's the experience for the kids. Also the TV ratings would of been a lot better with Lee and Braxton.
They base the invites on the percentage of the vote. There were only three finalists the year Troy Smith won, because he won in such a landslide that inviting more would've been pointless. That's very likely the case this year as well.

Braxton doesn't have any chance to win so why invite him?

Why even have the ceremony at all then? You pretty much know who's going to win every year.

Aside from the fact that guys like Braxton, Lee, Barner, etc, probably deserve it based on their numbers, I just don't see any reason to not invite 5. If for no other reason than it's a nice gesture to pay for a trip to New York for them, where they can see the sights and also work on marketing themselves professionally.

Why stop at 5 lets invite 10 while we're at it.

They've invited five in the past...no reason why they couldn't have five this year. Even if Braxton has virtually no chance to win it this year, they can still show highlights of his season and note he'll likely be a solid contender for next year, plus just having him on there would bring OSU viewership...

If the NCAA had not levied a Bowl Ban, one in which many feel was unwarranted, Braxton and the Buckeyes would most likely be preparing for a NCG with an undefeated QB. It would be highly unlikely that he would have been left off of the ballot in that scenario.

You could also argue that had Gene Smith not bee a fucking idiot...

Braxton has been a solid contender all season long despite the sanctions, so the NCAA has squat to do with it. What dropped him off the invite short-list was his performance at Wisconsin.

I'd argue that he's been a solid contendor despite the bowl ban, and with a potential NCG upcoming, I'd think his status would only be elevated.

Maybe, maybe not...there's no doubt that his performance at Wisconsin (less than 150 total offense on 40+ touches) still would've dinged him, and quite possibly kept him from NYC even if we were playing for the national title.

A game in which Ohio State won the game. Can Collin Klein claim that when KSU had their heads stomped on by Baylor? Can Johnny "Football" claim that when A&M lost to LSU and Florida?

I think there is a huge bias to downplay the season that Miller had because the Buckeyes aren't bowl eligible. Let's face it, if Ohio State had the opportunity to play Nebraska again, in Indianapolis, who's to say he wouldn't be the front runner for the award.

but they make up for it cause they had way better stats than Braxton...

love brax, he'll get his shot, but he's not a top 3 guy IMO this year

If anyone has the right to be pissed, it's the USC WR

You could also argue that a 6-6 team not going to a bowl game wouldn't be perceived as punishment at all.

I've heard/read voters say that they wouldn't vote for Braxton because of the bowl ban. It's just like the AP national title. Braxton's name was being pushed to the side before the Wisconsin game.
