WR Evan Spencer (BIG Champion, National Champion)

If you play college football for any of the 72 BCS conference schools and you need "bulletin board material" for ANY game, let alone the National Championship, your scholarship should be revoked and given to someone who would kill to be in that position.

"Bulletin board" is the biggest farce in sports.

"Bulletin Board material" is a media driven story line.

I don't know, there does seem to be some truth to it over the years.
But I'm not sure it's so much in the form of motivation put up by a coach, so much as the way it gets used by the media.
Let's take the Oregon guy who said they'd put up 40 on Stanford -- I bet everyone around him winced when he said that. The way the media took off with it, it put all the pressure on him too. Then he goes out there and gets stuffed in the 2nd series. That can get to a guy's head.
When the media gets ahold of something, repeats it all week, and potentially involves others being annoyed or irritated with you... it may well cause the "trash talker" to perform poorly. Or those around to them to subconsciously treat them different in practice and then game time.
I also think it can get to the opposing team -- not so much bulletin material that a coach puts up. But if these guys are hearing something constantly in the media, that can piss you off in a different way psychologically.
