» Infractions & Points |
We want these boards to be an enjoyable experience, and while there is a good deal of freedom in what can be posted on BP, there are certain actions which can result in infractions/warnings being issued. Infractions have points associated with them which the system retains, and accumulated point totals will trigger bans for specified time periods. Warnings are just that, they carry no points toward potential bans.
Moderators and Admins make judgment calls when deciding whether a poster's behavior warrants an infraction or a warning. There are no published definitions for each of these categories, but here's a clarification on 'Arguing with Mods/Admins': it's OK to debate an opinion/position on a board topic with a Mod/Admin; but it's not OK to argue on the boards about an action that was taken by a Mod/Admin. In that case, using the private message (PM) system to discuss the action is appropriate; however, if these discussions are abusive or overly persistent, the same infraction may be applied. Please remember the staff is all-volunteer, and that infractions are reviewed by the staff in general to ensure fairness.
Here is the current list of possible infractions:
5 point Infractions (points expire after 6 months):
Ding Whining
Game Thread Whining
Inappropriate Language
Inappropriate Signature/Avatar
10 Point Infractions (points expire after 12 months):

Ban whiningWhen returning from bans, or via email during a ban, some members argue about whether the ban was deserved. While all bans are subjective to a degree, all infractions, especially those resulting in bans, are reviewed by the mods at large, and sometimes changed or reversed after discussion. If there is something we clearly missed "I was quoting this other post in jest"), let us know. Otherwise, assume the staff has already discussed whether the infraction should stand, and that further debate will result in an extended vacation.
The points system can be revised on rare occasions; but here is how the infractions and their associated points will currently trigger bans:
20 total accumulated points: two-week ban
40 total accumulated points: three-week ban
60 total accumulated points: one-month ban
80 total accumulated points: two month ban
100 total accumulated points: permanent ban
3 total accumulated infractions (of any kind): one-week ban
6 total accumulated infractions (of any kind): two-week ban
9 total accumulated infractions (of any kind): two-month ban
12 total accumulated infractions (of any kind): permanent ban
