ViewsJoey GallowayFrom BpWikiJoey Galloway (born November 20, 1971 in Bellaire, Ohio) is a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Galloway played college football at The Ohio State University, where he led the team in receiving from 1993-1994. Galloway was an All Big 10 selection in 1993 and a two time Academic All Big 10 player from 1993-1994. After announcing his return for his senior season he was voted as a team captain for the 1994 Buckeye season. Galloway will always be remembered as one of the best wide receivers to ever don the Scarlet and Gray.
[edit] High SchoolGalloway attended Bellaire High School from 1987-1989. He was a multi-talented threat for the Big Reds, starring at wide receiver and as a kick/punt returner. Galloway helped Bellaire to a school-record 14 game winning streak from 1987-1988, which was capped off with a conference championship. Galloway holds six Bellaire football records:
[edit] Senior YearAs a senior, Galloway was a three sport athlete starring in football, basketball, and track. Galloway was an All-Ohio choice for basketball and lettered in track. As for football, he was named team captain and caught 32 passes for 608 yards and eight touchdowns. Galloway also averaged 26.9 yards per kickoff return and 15.2 yards per punt return. [edit] Sophomore YearSpring football brought high hopes for Buckeye fans as they had huge expectations for Galloway to become the next Cris Carter. However, just two games into the 1992 season when the Buckeyes crushed Syracuse, 35-12, Galloway had to be carted from the field as he tore a ligament in his knee and was lost for the remainder of the season. [edit] Junior YearEntering the 1993 season, Galloway burst onto the scene, becoming QB Bobby Hoying's favorite target. In the sixth game of the season, Galloway caught 9 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns as the Buckeyes went on to defeat the Michigan State Spartans 28-21. Later on in the ninth game of the season when the Buckeyes tied the Wisconsin Badgers 14-14, Galloway averaged an amazing 25.0 yards per catch. Galloway recorded four games with 100 yards receiving in 1993 (vs. Washington, at Michigan State, vs. Wisconsin, and vs. Indiana. He finished the year with 47 receptions for 946 yards and 11 touchdowns. [edit] Senior YearAfter committing to return for his senior year, Galloway was again established as the go-to-guy for the Buckeye offense. However, Galloway also began to emerge as one of the best return men in Buckeye history as he fielded both punts and kickoffs. In the eighth game of the season, Galloway again caught three touchdown passes as the Buckeyes routed the Purdue Boilermakers 48-14. His mark of three touchdown receptions in one game is still tied for 2nd on the all time Buckeye list. Four weeks later, Galloway racked up 136 kickoff return yards against the Indiana Hoosiers, which is tied for fifth in the Buckeye record books. Although, 1994 was an up-and-down season for the Buckeyes (9-4), which was capped off with a disappointing loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 1995 Citrus Bowl, 17-24, Galloway went out big against the 'Tide catching for 146 yards and the Bucks' only two touchdowns of the game.
