School: Edison

Position: Defensive back

Vitals: 6-0 / 185

Year: Junior

QUICK HITS

86 tackles

60 unassisted

2 interceptions

Peele was another key piece to Edison's defense that led the section in the fewest yards allowed during the regular season. Peele proved his worth this season, leading the Tigers in tackles. "Robert plays the safety position like few others can," said Edison coach Tim McDonald, a former NFL player. "And I'd like to think I know something about playing safety."

In the latest Rivals update Peele said his favorite college team to watch on TV is Ohio State. Mentions distance is not a factor but it's unclear where Ohio State has been in touch yet.

nice find... I think it will be difficult for a non Ohio kid who is a DB to get an offer this year... looks like Ohio is loaded with CB's, and there are a couple of saftey prospects that look really good as well... if the PA kid comes to OSU I think as of now that he will prob. be the only DB out of state... also look at all the safties we took last year... with scholies at a premium this year, I don't know if takeing a bunch of safties is what the staff is looking to do...

Was just reading a July 1st Lemming update of North Cali kids on ESPN. On Peele he says;

"His teammate Robert Peele (5-10, 175) is the more heralded of the two after totalling 86 tackles, two pick(s) and 10 pass breakups in 2003. He may not have the great burst of (Johnny) Sears, but his instincts and anticipation are second to none. Peele's dream school is the Ohio State Buckeyes. He's also looking at a USC, Cal, Washington, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Arizona."

Lemming could use an editor to clean up his articles ("looking at a USC?"), but I never mind reading that blue-chip cornerback prospects have us as their dream school. Does anyone know anything about this kid? Surprised to see he hasn't come up since Feb, but that may be all about gbear's point. No room?

No mention of Ohio State in this Rivals update from 6/3. I'm sure if we were showing interest we'd be a factor. In the article it's mentioned that his father wants him to leave the state and distance won't play a factor in Peele's decision.

Tim McDonald is a former All-Pro, Superbowl-winning NFL safety. I'm guessing that he knows how to evaluate the position; maybe the Bucks should be looking at this guy.

BTW, McDonald is also a USC alum.

It's so hard to imagine that if you have an outstanding 5'10" cornerback in Cali and an outstanding 5'10" cornerback from Ohio (Harrison) that the Ohio CB wouldn't win out with Tressel. We haven't been able to find room for Harrison yet, so I doubt we will find room for Peele. A great find by the way, Bucknutty.
