The latest on Bemoll... <hr size="1"> from Greg Biggins at studentsports.com (Rivals- west coast recruiting expert)...

Since last week when we reported that we felt UCLA made a mistake in not taking a commitment from Kevin Bemoll, I've had several emails asking different questions about the situation. Rather than answer all of them, I figured it would be easier to post it here.

First off, there is some perception that Ohio State dropped Bemoll rather than the other way around. I'm not sure where this came from but it's not accurate. I just talked to MV coach Bob Johnson yesterday who said Buckeye coach Jim Tressell is still calling him trying to see if there is any way they can get Bemoll back in the fold.

Secondly, there is the perception that UCLA chose Brown over Bemoll. Bemoll was offered by UCLA way back in the summer. In fact, in the same week, UCLA offered three MV linemen, Bemoll, Reed and Williams.

The fact that he had an offer from way back in the summer is the reason he felt he could commit in the first place. I say this because a few of the emails I received have been saying something to the effect of, 'UCLA offered Brown not Bemoll, therefore Brown must be a better player.'

I'm not going to argue again who I feel is the better player, not worth rehashing that, but to say Bemoll never had a UCLA offer would be wrong. They actually offered him months before offering Brown but chose not take Bemolls commitment because they want to bring in another tackle rather than a guard.

Lastly, yes, I've gotten a lot of emails on this, another question has been, 'how good can Bemoll really be since no one else is really is recruiting him.' Kevin wants to stay close to home and that's why you don't hear more schools mentioned. Several schools including ND, Florida, Penn State and Tennessee have all contacted the school about Bemoll but were told Kevin wants to stay local and that's why Cal and Oregon are the only two you hear mentioned right now.

Hope this clears up a few questions that have been going around out there.

Keep in mind that the distance from Mission Viejo to Eugene Oregon is over 900 miles... which is roughly the same distance between Columbus and Florida. When was the last time you've heard a recruit from Jacksonville say that he plans to play at Ohio State so he can play for a "local" program?

A little credence to Methomp's comment about Bemoll being a little "odd"...in the latest Rivals interview he is now interested in ND... Oregon Rivals on Kevin Bemoll (1/13/05)

I tended to think the reason for his de-commit was distance...now I just think this kid is either very confused or something closer to Methomp's comment...

I would pass on him now (if he flip-flopped). Looking like an above average Ohio OL class for '06.

The recruiting process is a very difficult one for some kids, its obviously a hard decision, but when he says local, I have to believe he means the west coast.

I wouldn't pass on the kid because he has flip flopped, that happens every year, sometimes a kid has a hard time telling a great coach no.

Wherever he ends up, I am sure he will be successful.
