'05 DE QB Gene DelleDonne (Duke signee...MTSU transfer)

According to my buddy who went to every Salesianum quarterback Gene Delle Donne game says this kid is "fu$%ing awful"

If the kid is so f*cking awful, why is your buddy going to everyone one of his games?

Sounds like a whole bunch of sour grapes to me.
Living close to Pittsburgh I always heard the thing that Terry Bradshaw
couldn,t even make many other NFL teams, and the only reason he got
all the hype was because of his receivers.
He did have great receivers but I also think he did a pretty good job of
getting the ball to them.

its obvious that some so called experts believe this kid has some talent, he is on alot of recruiting lists, I am calling BS also, just doesnt make sense that all the web sites would be listing this kid if he was "awful", just my opinion. :oh: :io: :osu2: :bigten: :scum4:

Delle donne's tape wasn't as impressive as some of the other QB's who have some interest in OSU (Stull, Schoenhoft); he has a funny delivery in which he kind of "hops" forward when he releases the ball, making him look way off balance. However, he has the size and athleticism necessary for the position, and could be a good one down the road with the proper coaching.

Delle donne needs good camps and a big senior year to impress schools like OSU and ND (his favorites); committing early to Duke would be tantamount to admitting defeat.

The thought of taking part in rebuilding a football tradition is very appealing to Delle Donne.

Re-building???

...or he isn't getting very good feedback from the big time programs- but I agree he should at least try some camps if he was serious about a big time program.

If I'm not getting a lot of attention from my big programs and Duke wants me, I would think I'd be leaning towards the Blue Devils. Not much of a chance to make the NFL from there, but look at the education I'd be getting. A degree from Duke opens a lot of doors...

My broter is close friends with a kid who had an offer from Duke (and several MAC schools)... the kid was using Duke as his worst case senerio, but he really wanted to play in the Big Ten...

As it turned out the Head Coach of Duke was fired, all offers were removed from the table (unless the kid had verbaled)... no Big Ten school offered, and he wound up in a MAC school...

Moral of the story... if it looks like no offers are comming from your top level programs, and you have an offer from a school you like... take it and move along... that school could resind your offer, take another kid in your place, etc.

If I was him, I would verbal to Duke, and get a degree from a great school....

sounds to me like he is just happy to be getting the love from duke. as the proccess gets more hectic after some of the camps this summer if he is really good enough to be at a major program i would be shocked if he didnt rethink this potential commitment once the big boys come knocking.

Ted Roof has scored his biggest recruiting coup as the Blue Devils' head coach.

Star quarterback Gene Delle Donne committed to Duke this weekend after an unofficial visit to the campus.

"[The visit] went well," Delle Donne told The Chronicle Saturday afternoon. "The coaches were just fantastic; it was nothing I could've imagined... the facilities were unbelievable, and me and my parents both felt it was the place."

Boston College, Notre Dame and Georgia have also been vying for the Wilmington, Del. product's services. However, according to Delle Donne, no school has shown more interest than Duke.

"They definitely recruited me so much harder than any other school," said Delle Donne. "The level of interest is definitely higher than from any other school I'm hearing from."

Standing 6-foot-5 and tipping the scales at 225 pounds, Delle Donne threw for 1,759 yards and 19 touchdowns last season for Salesianum High School. An accurate passer, Delle Donne completed an impressive 66 percent of his passes and threw just four interceptions. Additionally, Delle Donne, who is a Hodge Top 150 recruit, is a mobile signal caller, amassing 220 yards and five scores on the ground. Delle Donne is the second quarterback in as many days to commit to the Blue Devils. The Winston-Salem Journal reported Friday that Charlotte prep star Joe Cox also gave a verbal commitment to Roof. Cox, whose father Charles played safety for the Blue Devils in the 1970s, will be reunited with current Duke quarterbacks coach Tom Knotts, who coached Cox's Independence High School team last year. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound quarterback put up staggering numbers for Independence last year, completing 237 of 373 pass attempts for 3,983 yards. An able replacement for current Florida star Chris Leak, Cox threw for 43 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in extending Independence's winning streak to 62 games.
