'05 FL QB Carlton "CJ" Jackson (Akron signee)

You always take a great player you can get, when you can get them. If you blow off a good QB this class because you think you might get another in the next class, you could be left out in the cold. If our taking two top-notch QBs this class limits us to only one QB, or none, next class then so be it.

Well he must have impressed somebody. It doesn't matter what position he was recruited at the fact remains he was good enough to get an offer and smart enough to accept it.

IMO he's being recruited as a WR. There is no way you jeopardize the chance to get a kid like sanchez. The coaches ultimately know what they want. Actually I hope hes a diamond in the rough receiver.

The coaches have offered alot of WR's. He may be a second qb type of guy. IMO tressel like mobile QB's so he may be a qb recruit all the way. soooooo we will see what happens.

My comments, for what they are worth: I think that OSU should take two QB's this year, but they probably will not unless the second to commit is Sanchez (similar to last year, when the Bucks would've taken Reid or Lee despite Bauserman's early commitment). Also, I am on record as stating that Troy Smith will end up at RB or WR; he is arguably the best athlete on the team, and would be wasted as a second- or third-string QB (which seems to be the direction which that path is leading).

As far as Jackson goes, I don't know much about him, other than that Helpinghand first introduced him to this board on March 17th (see South Florida Football thread), so props to him for the early heads-up (which I for one neglected). Maybe HH can give us some first-hand info soon.

Here's a link to a Kurelic article on Jackson:

Bill Kurelic on Carlton Jackson (6/21/04)

Apparently, Carlton was the MVP at Florida's camp, and he favored NC State (at least as of Monday).

That's odd, because if you read the mich. sites, they report a bunch of kids that left camp with offers (Zirbel, etc.).

According to Duane a new rule was put in place last year that prohibits a school from offering a kid at camp, something to do with giving a school an unfair advantage but usually prospect only camp at a few places. The rule doesn't really make sense to me but whatever I guess. If what Zirbel said is accurate, scUM committed a violation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that Zirbel kid get a Miami offer after their camp?

You're right. He was offered after he won the OL MVP at the camp.

The rivals article says Zirbel spent a week at scUM's camp and when asked if Cory received an offer his father said yes. Zirbel said he felt he did pretty well at the camp and the father said the offer pretty much confirmed that fact.

I think you just struck at what the heart of the rule is. HH would obviously know more about this than me, but I think I remember this being in effect last year. Technically, I think a coach can dismiss a camp, and verbally offer a kid just a few minutes after camp is over. I think there has to be a short "cooling off" period of somekind though, where there isn't allowed to be a written offer or verbal committment for a certain period after the end of camp. I'm not sure, that's just what I seem to remember as being the case last year. The rule makes sense, and maybe somebody more in the know (HH?) can set me straight on this.

I don't understand the camp/offer restriction. What's the difference if a school issues an offer during the camp or 24 hours afterwards? You can offer any kid in the country real-life sight-unseen (tapes, heresay, etc.), but if you have a kid at your camp and see him in person, you have to wait 24 hours. WTF is the purpose of that?
