'05 Florida WR Fred Rouse (Florida State, transfer to UTEP)

Free Rivals Fred Rouse & Lincoln HS article

Lincoln is well represented at several of college football's top programs including Miami (Greg Threat), Florida (Gavin Dickey), Georgia (Mike Gilliam), and Ohio State (Joe Bauserman).

Despite constant double teams, wide receiver Fred Rouse racked up 41 catches for 667 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He also averaged over 21 yards per punt return, which included one touchdown.

"Fred has got a burst, he's got explosion, he's a great competitor, he's got instincts and he's just got a knack and feel for the game," Wilson said. "He's just got things you can't teach. He sees things that a lot of kids don't see."

Rouse should be a five-star recruit when the Rivals.com rankings come out next month.

Not surprisingly, just about ever major Division 1A program has offered a scholarship to the All-American wideout. The prevailing thinking is that Rouse will join several of his former teammates at FSU but he has been keeping it close to the vest as of late. The latest rumor is that the Hurricanes have made up a lot of ground and are now a serious contender for his services.

In addition to FSU and Miami, Rouse has expressed a serious interest in Florida, LSU, USC, Ohio State and Texas. His list could be narrowed to as few as three schools by the start of his senior season. Those three lucky schools will probably have to wait until national signing day before the standout receiver announces his final choice.

Unfortunately we are starting to see these "big name" skill players looking only at offenses that will put their name up in light on sportscenter. The "Team" concept is slowly fading away from college football and it is because of recruiting popularity. These kids are know being followed and called and pampered by so many media outlets that their heads swell to the size of the goodyear blimp.

I like what Mili said, Jenkins was the kind of player that these kids need to know about. He did have good numbers and set a few records, but he was by no means a household name when it came to recievers. Guess what, the pros found him anyway.

I hope to see some type of change in the "I wanna play for a school that is gonna <insert type of offense that will make them a star>". We need to start seeing kids say "I like the family atmosphere at <school> and they have a solid tradition of winning. I will make the offense better with my abilities." That may never happen but I can still hope.

Before anyone comes the defense of these kids, I am not asking that any athlete NOT want to be at a big name school because of the offense (i.e. USC). I am just saying I would like to see more of these kids lose the ME,ME,ME type of attitudes.

During the NFL draft, did you catch this quote about Michael Jenkins?

'The best-coached wide receiver in the draft this year'

Said by Michael Irvin. Of course, that was about the only worthwhile statement he made over several hours.

Well theres something your not taking into consideration Lord Jeff. We are making inroads with his school. Even if we don't get him(99.9% chance he's a seminole)underclassmen might get to talk to our coaches and get exposed to the buckeyes.

No doubt, and I'm all for that. I'd like to see OSU get into every high school in the nation, if possible (it isn't, obviously). Just don't get ANY hopes up for Fred Rouse. BTW, we'll be fine at WR - Hartline is in the fold, and Amos, Robiskie, Lymon, and Sledge are all strong possibilities.
