'05 IL OL Dan Doering (Iowa signee)

He is said to favor Iowa-hope he has fun being in the losing lockerroom against the Bucks the next four years. I wonder if Big 10 recruits ever think of that "damn, I could have signed w/ scUM or Ohio State, but I signed w/ Purdue/Illinois/Iowa/Michigan State/Wisconsin instead and got my ass kicked 4 years straight?"

Michigan certainly has been saying damn the last 2 years after the Iowa game and last years Iowa -OSU game was anything but an a## Kicking. Close hard fought game. Iowa might not have the longevity of OSU but to continually think of Iowa as a second tier program is a mistake. If OSU wins in Kinnick I will come back and give a tip of the cap but I wouldnt count it in the win column yet. It will be a brutal physical game regardless of score. Both teams have very similar coaching MO'S.

No doubt Iowa is up with Michigan and OSU at the top of the Big10 right now. If Doering goes there, I'm sure he'll be in four bowl games, but he may or may not get into the BCS. I'm still hoping that OSU can convince him to join Boone to create a monster O-line.

Dont look for Ferentz to leave anytime soon

He has younger than HS age kids and they love Iowa City. His wife loves Iowa City and they have publically stated that they want the kids to graduate from the same school. Recently for the first time members of the staff most notibly Coach Morgan has stated Coach Ferentz is in Iowa for the long haul and Ferentz isnt overly enamored with the increased ugliness of the Pro game. He even went as far as to say he could envision a Hayden Fry like tenure for Kirk. Schools that have been using that to try to negatively sway recruits from Iowa are increasingly looking foolish. Not saying OSU has but we in Iowa City KNOW that Michigan, Iowa State, And mainly KSU have aggressively used it. KSU has been extremely forward on the negative recruiting approach per several sourcing including parents, prospects as well as coaches. Looking forward to a really physical and hard fought game this year in Kinnick with you guys.

The Iowa Insiders site seems to think Doering might be ready to commit (I assume to them). Duane seems to think he is a ND lean.

Obviously if he commits soon it doesn't look good for tOSU. I was hoping we could get one of he last two official visits (he has already said Iowa, ND and NE would get the first three).

"...last years Iowa -OSU game was anything but an a## Kicking."

Maybe not according to the final score, but there were two key plays that swung the score 14 points toward Iowa's favor.

1. If Krenzel doesn't fumble going over the goal-line. I still contend that he was over the plane when the ball came loose.

2. If any of the officials on the field call either one of the ridiculously-obvious holding penalties on the fake field goal. Carpenter got dragged down from behind and (I believe it was) Fox was mugged even worse.

Anyway, add 14 (or 11 if you assume Iowa kicks the FG after the holding call), and it suddenly looks a lot worse than it was.

We seem to always think that spirituality and religion would help these kids gravitate to Tress, but has anyone actually committed because of that? I remember being pretty sure about Jarrett just because of the gospel music thing, and his relgious beliefs. Regardless, it can't HURT, I'm just curious..

I don't know much about the situation in Iowa, but I can certainly tell you I have heard similar sentiments before. It is always "all good" until opportunity knocks.

As for Iowa's program; you don't need to defend it. IMO they are taking Wisconsin's spot in the top tier of the conference. Wiskey has been on a B10 slide for several years and Iowa is clearly on the rise.

The problem you are going to face in any football debate with OSU fans is longevity. OSU and TSUN are used to "one of the little 8" stepping up for a few years. We have seen it many times before. I know that sounds cocky, but it is also reality. Illinois made a few runs. Purdue has enjoyed a few nice seasons. Even Northwestern won a few B10 crowns. Kirk may very well retire from Iowa. The trick is if he can continue to be THE MAN or is there going to be a new flavor of the month that will steal some of his thunder. Right now he is a hot name which helps recruiting.

The questioin is what happens once he settles in and is no longer the upstart coach getting lots of attention?

Sounds like a simple problem to solve doesn't it? Yet over the last...oh.....80 to 100 years only two schools in the B10 seem to have figured this hurdle out.

Regardless, I guess this thread needs split. Lets get back to talking about the NEXT great Buckeye lineman!

The rumors about Frentz leaving Iowa are not internet garbage - they have been sourced by national media types (Fox, ESPN, etc.). The hot rumor last year was Ferentz to Penn State.

In addition, last season Ferentz was telling recruits (like Kyle Mitchum) that he could guarantee them that he'd be at Iowa for one year; no guarantees after that.

Kirk will never , even 10 years from now give a guarantee that He will be Coaching more than the next year, Simply put because no one can read the future. Any Coach that guarantees that 100% is flat out lying. I can tell you from a very close lady associate of mine that is knows Kirks wife Mary well that She loves Iowa and has no designs on leaving anytime soon. Kirk doesnt guarantee anything in recruiting other than the Schollie and the oppurtanity to challenge for playing time. He lets the school and people in the program sell itself. He is not a Glitz guy and as Ive said I percieve Coach Ferentz alot like Coach Tressel in Demeanor and Philoshy. One thing I can say is Kirk has said to IClub folks that He would never leave Iowa for another Big Ten school. People can say what they want but Ferentz is honest to the bone and national reports are assumptions from the press not from his mouth. Bt the way Congrats on getting Jenkins today He looks like a keeper, Tough class your putting together.
